Not perhaps very folky, but I was once at a session in Edinburgh where the Polish barmaid suggested we ought to play some of his stuff.

I saw him quite a few time when he was principal guest conductor of the NDR Symphony Orchestra in Hamburg from 1988 on. He was a good'un.

Very sad news. Not mentioned on TV news Unfortunately the death of major composers and other significant musicians so often go unreported
