Fiona tweeted that “stable” just meant (paraphrasing) his situation wasn’t changing. Still incubated. Still critical.

Barnacle, that is a misleading headline. The content of the article is much the same as the associate press article I pasted here. The situation IS more hopeful, maybe much more hopeful, but Prine is NOT out of danger.

According to the Taste of Country article (Jack Campin's link at the beginning of this discussion), earlier - I think when his wife was diagnosed with Corona virus -John Prine made this statement:

"I'm asking you to please stay at home. That's all," Prine said at the time. "The government can help, and I think they are really starting to really figure out that this is serious, this is life and death for God knows how many Americans. They can help, but, honestly, it is truly in our hands. It is up to us Americans to make an individual decision for our families and say, 'You know what? This is scary as hell. I may not get a paycheck next week. I don't know what I'm gonna do with the kids' ...
"Just stay home. Please, stay home," Prine added. "I think we'll get through this if we do it together."

J think that if Prine recovers, he could write a wonderful song about Covid-19 and how the epidemic affects people.

American folk singer John Prine is in stable condition after being placed on a ventilator while being treated for Covid-19 symptoms, his wife has said.

The singer-songwriter’s family said on Sunday that Prine was critically ill, but on Monday his wife Fiona Whelan Prine suggested his condition had improved overnight.

“Please continue to send your amazing love and prayers,” she said on Twitter. “Sing his songs. Stay home and wash hands. John loves you. I love you.”

Ms Prine, who is also his manager, tested positive for coronavirus earlier in March, and said the couple were quarantined and isolated from each other. She said on Monday that she had recovered from Covid-19.

The 73-year-old singer, one of the most influential in folk and country music, has twice fought cancer. Most recently, he was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2013 and had part of a lung removed.
The operations affected his voice but he continued to make music and to tour. Before the onset of the virus, he had shows scheduled in May and a summer tour planned.

Latest is that he is "stable" which is quite a bit better than the previous "critical". But the virus is very unpredictable.

I guess that he is a vulnerable person.

Memories, they can't be boughten.
They can't be won at carnivals for free.
Well it took me years to get those souvenirs,
And I don't know how they slipped away from me.

John Prine has been hospitalized since Thursday after suffering from symptoms synonymous with the novel coronavirus. While Prine’s exact medical condition is unclear, “his situation is critical,” his family said in a statement Sunday.

“After a sudden onset of COVID-19 symptoms, John was hospitalized on Thursday. He was intubated Saturday evening, and continues to receive care, but his situation is critical,” the Prine family wrote.

“This is hard news for us to share. But so many of you have loved and supported John over the years, we wanted to let you know, and give you the chance to send out more of that love and support now. And know that we love you, and John loves you.”

On March 20th, Prine’s wife Fiona revealed that she had tested positive for the coronavirus, and while her husband also tested, his status remained “indeterminate” at the time.

“There’s a chance he may not have this virus,” Fiona Prine said on Instagram, “and we are working really, really hard and being really diligent about all of the protocols. We are quarantined and isolated from each other and members of the family. It’s hard, I won’t lie, but it’s absolutely important.”

Prine’s health issues over the past few decades have been well-documented, as has the singer’s comebacks: In the late-Nineties, Prine was diagnosed with squamous cell cancer in his neck; after rounds of radiation, surgery and a year of rehabilitation, Prine returned to music, his deepened voice a battle scar from the cancer fight. In 2013, Prine announced he had an operable cancer, “non-small cell carcinoma,” in his left lung, briefly sidelining him.

preceded John Prine's, in fact --
his first test results said "indeterminate."

John and Fiona Prine were in Europe in February,
and Mrs. Prine has wondered (on the record)
if they contracted the virus there.
