G'day Fulurum,

This is prpobably unrelated, but your line in somewhat in the same vein as Sydney Carter's song Run the Film Backwards, which starts out:

When I was ninety seven (?), they took me from my coffin,
Theyt found a flannel nightshirt, for me to travel off in.
Innocent and toothless, I used to lie in bed
Still trailing clouds of glory, from the time when I was dead.

But the cruel age of sixty five put paid to my enjoyment,
I had to find a bowler hat and go to my employment.

The song continues backwards through his life until:
Mother is the world to me - and soon I'l be inside her.
And now it is so early, there is nothing I can see
Before the world, or after - wherever can I be!

If this is related, I can scan in the whole song for you.

Regards,

Bob Bolton

Ahhh, death, gee,,,,, how I like to think of death.

Perhaps these are what your friend desires:

IT HATH NO REVERSE

by Dejavu (punk hard-edge band)

MY LIFE IS LIKE A VOLVO,
IT HATH NO REVERSE.
I'M GOING MENTAL,
AS I SMOKE AND CURSE.
WHEN I LOOK AT INK BLOTS,
I EXLAIM "SEX AND DEATH" HOW PERVERSE.

MY LIFE IS LIKE A VOLVO,

IT HATH NO REVERSE.

IT SOUNDS JUST LIKE TORI,

NO, DAVE MATHEWS, OR WORSE.

IT MUST BE THE POT

HIDDEN DEEP INSIDE MY PURSE.

MY LIFE IS LIKE A VOLVO,

IT HATH NO REVERSE.

JUST FORWARD AND SIDEWAYS,

KIND OF LIKE A HEARSE

THE SMOKE CAUSES BLOOD TO COUGH

I TOLD THE RESIDENT NURSE

MY LIFE IS LIKE A VOLVO IT HATH NO REVERSE

Personaly, I think the tune and lyrics BOTH suck...big time!

Is anyone still interested in this? I have the 45 RPM record. In fact I have several records by Billy Cole. He was a DJ at WHO Des Moines... and made a few waves with a song on one of those records, 'A Man Can Sure Get Lonely In Des Moines.' He was actually only there about 4 years...and was at various other radio stations, before and after, including one in Nashville. He died in 2007 and is in the DJ Hall of Fame. Short of digging out the record... I can't give you the lyrics.

It would be nice to have the lyrics when you have a chance, and thanks for the update Vista15.

I remember the song from my childhood and here are some of lyrics to my best recollection. I also had a 45 of the song.

Put the hearse in reverse
Cause I wanna live again
there's lots of things I haven't seen
and places I haven't been.
Please don't bury me in this box
I'm lying in
Put the hearse in reverse
Cuz I wanna live again

OK. My posting of this song is not necessarily an indication that I like it.....
This song made the World's Dumbest Songs Website. What an honor. Well, I do like it, but it's still a dumb song.

PUT THE HEARSE IN REVERSE
(D. Clements, R. Batson, L. Cole - from the recording by Billy C. Cole)

There's a big, long line of cars, I'm in the first;
With headlights on in the afternoon -
You're right, you guessed the worst.
Can't somebody help me, and get me out of here -
Before they reach the graveyard
And say that final prayer.

CHORUS:
Oh, put the hearse in reverse,
'Cause I wanna live again;
There's lots of things I haven't done,
And towns I haven't been.
Please don't bury me in this box I'm lyin' in,
Put the hearse in reverse
'Cause I wanna live again.

I lost my job, my house and car,
My money, kids and wife;
And now to make things even worse,
Well, I've gone and lost my life;
I wish that Lady Luck
Could one time let me win,
Put this hearse in reverse
And let me live again.

CHORUS

I've made love from coast to coast
In my younger days.
I drank and fought and loved some more,
And lived my rowdy ways.
There's some girls I know I've missed,
And fights I ain't been in,
So put this hearse in reverse
And let me live again.

CHORUS
No one's listenin' to my pleas,
I guess I go unheard.
For all the talkin' that I'm doin',
They can't hear a single word.
We've just reached the graveyard,
And now we're turnin' in,
Put the hearse in reverse
And let me live again.

CHORUS

[spoken]
Uh-oh.
Hey, stop!
Please, stop!
Hey, wait a minute!
He ain't backin' up!
He shut the motor off!
Hey! Hey! What are you ape (?) cats doin' here?
I don't wanna go!
No! No! No! Help me! Hey!.....
