I remember the song from my childhood and here are some of lyrics to my best recollection. I also had a 45 of the song.

Is anyone still interested in this? I have the 45 RPM record. In fact I have several records by Billy Cole. He was a DJ at WHO Des Moines... and made a few waves with a song on one of those records, 'A Man Can Sure Get Lonely In Des Moines.' He was actually only there about 4 years...and was at various other radio stations, before and after, including one in Nashville. He died in 2007 and is in the DJ Hall of Fame. Short of digging out the record... I can't give you the lyrics.

Stumbled across this all these years later...

Song was "Put The Hearse In Reverse" by Billy C. Cole, yes it was a country song.

This is prpobably unrelated, but your line in somewhat in the same vein as Sydney Carter's song Run the Film Backwards, which starts out:

When I was ninety seven (?), they took me from my coffin,
Theyt found a flannel nightshirt, for me to travel off in.
