I came across this article today about collaborative tools - Ways to collaborate and Jamkazam does look interesting for all sorts of reasons. Has anyone used it or know anything much about it?

The video with a four piece band and a string quartet playing - if true - is interesting to say the least.

the link says However, many users simply use JamKazam as a low-latency way to practice together online which still depends on the quality of your broadband.

It requires a very good broadband connection, with only a fairly short physical route for the signal - the limitation is largely due to the speed of light and is non-negotiable. You can't jam in real time with somebody a continent away.

Thanks. I will experiment further as it looks that it will do what I require. More interested in the non real time options it offers

Even a distance of 10000 km means only 33 ms at the speed of light, maybe 50 ms or so over an optical cable, so it seems to me that the overhead caused by splitting the data into packets and re-assembling them is more significant. See this article.

I looked at JamKazam last week. The website and YouTube guides seemed very positive about synchronized playing and singing. I thought it was a bit strange there seemed to be no independent reviews that I could see, just a few forum discussions over the last few years (the software seems to be about five years old).
Finally found this recent discussion on Fiddle Hangout. Maybe not as good for "jamming" as the developers make out.

Fast broadband is mandatory. Ethernet cable rather than Wi-Fi recommended. Headphones required. Possibly audio-interface required. May be able to try all that later when I find a faster computer (this laptop is at least ten years old).

Ross

I have a 75mbps connection, headphones, and choice of audio interfaces. So far have it set up with a fair connection that should make it at least workable
