Subject: PRS and online performances. From: Acorn4 Date: 03 Apr 20 - 07:14 PM All the wonderful music that is being posted up online at the moment makes isolation so much easier. Just one question - a lot of the songs are covers - when a song is done as a cover the writer normally gets PRS money through gigs or radio plays - if you are a songwriter you may be going through a rough time at the moment due to lack of gigs - does PRS cover online performance and if not should it? Just as a footnote if you are a performing songwriter who is affected by lack of gigs at the moment PRS have started an emergency relief fund -check out the site. https://www.prsformusic.com/c/emergency-relief-fund PS: this is UK |

Subject: RE: PRS and online performances. From: GUEST,Some bloke Date: 05 Apr 20 - 09:09 AM Yes. There is a copyright clause on the copyrighted by others content on my Youtube channel. You either declare it when uploading or, as in the case of one I genuinely forgot... Youtube itself can and does pick up on it and declares any royalties for that video go to the correct source. |
Subject: RE: PRS and online performances. From: Acorn4 Date: 05 Apr 20 - 01:50 PM Just wondering about the online folk clubs springing up at the moment which consist of a lot of covers? |
Subject: RE: PRS and online performances. From: Bonzo3legs Date: 06 Apr 20 - 02:14 AM The online webcasts from Benji Kirkpatrick and Miranda Sykes appear as a mirror image instead of a photographic image, ie horizontally flipped so a right handed guitarist appears to be left handed!! |
Subject: RE: PRS and online performances. From: GUEST,Howard Jones Date: 06 Apr 20 - 08:10 AM Apparently smartphone and laptop cameras reverse the image so you see a mirror image of yourself, which is more familiar to you and makes presenting easier. |
Subject: RE: PRS and online performances. From: GUEST,Big Al Whittle Date: 06 Apr 20 - 08:31 AM I don't imagine any songwriters really expect to collect revenue from folk clubs in which ever dimension they exist. As for downloads - its gratifying to know your songs are being played somewhere. But pages of downloads don't seem to produce much in the way of dibs. I will say that professional publishers seem to be a bit better at gathering in the loot than all these indie agencies. |
