I just had a thought. How many times over the years have you seen the trees at the home of an unpopular person (college president) festooned with toilet paper?

It warms my heart to think that the frat rats that did that are now lying awake at night saying "Why did I do that? How could I do that? If only my family had that toilet paper now!"

Many years ago my grandfather owned a Stutz Bearcat. To this day, his descendents are saying "If only we had that Stutz Bearcat now!" Same hopeless yearning.

heh heh

I wonder if the custom of chucking unrolling toilet paper at Premier League footballers during a match died out some years ago? It would be like throwing solid gold Rolexes at them now wouldn't it?

My hometown, which was not at all large,
had a not-at-all-large public park. Trees, grass, benches, etc.

The war monument in that park had a life-size statue
of an infantryman carrying some kind of rifle.

One year the kids made
a toilet-paper mummy out of that soldier statue.

Probably Civil War. Every town had such a statue. Most still have them.

Many years ago my grandfather owned a Stutz Bearcat.

In the UK it would have been a Rolls.................

Well, Senoufou, I never heard of anybody throwing toilet paper at players. Seems like a good way to get thrown out of the stadium.

Seems like a good way to get thrown out of the stadium.

UK soccer matches in the 70/80s - it was a pretty lawless time then. They even had to put up fences to stop the loosing team's fans invading the pitch to kill the game & nullify the result.

And look where that ended!

Those of Sen's generation & mine may remember the description of a Biblical football match in Zechariah 5:5 (AV)

"After this I lifted up mine eyes, and behold, a flying roll"

At Caltech in my time there was a demonstration at a freshman lecture of a singing sewer pipe. If you put a disk of screen (I think it was) a quarter way up a vertical length of sewer pipe and then heated it with a Bunsen burner, it would howl. To the students, this suggested unrolling a roll of toilet paper up the updraft in the chimney of a (gas) fireplace, and then lighting the bottom of it. When the flame reached the magical fraction of the chimney, it would excite a rumble that would shake the building.

Have a look on Youtube at the Standard-Anderlecht stadium in Belgium, where England fans launched an absolute cascade of loo paper onto the pitch. This was in 2014.
(However, as the date of the video is April 3rd, this MAY be an April Fool spoof, and not real!)
Wish I could do a blue clicky thing!

'In the UK it would have been a Rolls................'

Surely the Stutz Bearcat was decidedly sportif, which made it the favourite of well-heeled young people? I would have thought that the UK equivalent would be a Bentley 3-litre.

stutz

Is that sportiv? Now that I study it, to me it looks more gangsteriv than sportiv.

Grandma and Grampa had a family of eight, so I can see why the Stutz didn't last long.
