Subject: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: Dave the Gnome Date: 18 Apr 20 - 02:44 AM Would anyone be interested in posting videos to a Mudcat channel on YouTube? We could use it as a sort of online folk club, particularly during the current crisis. We could of course just post to the Mudcat Facebook page but many on here have said they say away from Facebook. Or does anyone have a better idea?

Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: Joe Offer Date: 18 Apr 20 - 02:56 AM Why don't you set it up, Dave? I think it's a great idea. You can post links here in this thread. I've been enjoying your online performances. -Joe- |
Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: Dave the Gnome Date: 18 Apr 20 - 03:16 AM OK, Joe and thanks. I'll look into how to do it :-) Are you up late er early? |
Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: Joe Offer Date: 18 Apr 20 - 03:33 AM Well, it's only 12:30 AM. Probably an hour before bedtime. Mornings are boring, so I sleep through them. Remember Mudcatter Alison in Australia? Take a listen to this: -Joe- |
Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: Jack Campin Date: 18 Apr 20 - 03:41 AM Great idea. Would it help to have two channels, one purely of performances by Mudcatters and another one if things Mudcatters want to point us to? |
Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: Dave the Gnome Date: 18 Apr 20 - 03:41 AM That's great. Love the percussion section :-) |
Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: GUEST,Nick Dow Date: 18 Apr 20 - 06:42 AM Go on Dave! Set it up. I'll contribute. If you/Joe have editorial control, maybe contributors could We Transfer videos to you, for you to upload as you see fit. |

Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: Vic Smith Date: 18 Apr 20 - 08:01 AM Don't people already post their videos on the Mudcat Facebook page? |
Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: Dave the Gnome Date: 18 Apr 20 - 11:09 AM I think they do, Vic, but as I said in the OP a number of people have said they don't do Faceache. Anyhow, making this up as I go along now... We have a Youtube channel here with just one video on it - by me. Sorry :-) How do we want to play this? People send me videos and I post them? As it is a 'brand' channel I can also add another admin. Maybe someone in the US? Joe? It's my first venture onto a YouTube channel so I am open to any ideas that would be better. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: Stilly River Sage Date: 18 Apr 20 - 11:24 AM Good! Now, when people post stuff to the Facebook page that will soon disappear, I can point them at the new page and ask them to share it there as well. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: Stilly River Sage Date: 18 Apr 20 - 11:26 AM We don't like your videos posted on that Facebook page as the only place because everything disappears too quickly. Please consider shifting to the YouTube platform. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: Bonnie Shaljean Date: 19 Apr 20 - 04:48 AM What an absolutely brilliant idea. Jack’s suggestion too, about having a recommended-listening channel. Go for it. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: Joe G Date: 19 Apr 20 - 06:33 AM Ah I finally know who you are Dave! Mystery solved! Recognize you from Skipton FC I think and possibly the Topic? |
Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: Dave the Gnome Date: 19 Apr 20 - 08:02 AM I have only been to topic once, Joe, and that was years ago. Skipton is my regular club now but I do venture elsewhere occasionally :-) Did you ever go to Swindon near Manchester? I was doorman and chief glass emptier there for over 30 years until about 8 years back. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: Daniel Kelly Date: 19 Apr 20 - 08:53 AM You may get less pain out of a Mudcat Playlist on YouTube, this would avoid all the extra uploading and people can just send you links to the upload on their own channel. You could set up playlists based on a theme (e.g. Child Ballads, Deportation Ballads, Bawdy Ballads). |
Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: Dave the Gnome Date: 19 Apr 20 - 08:53 AM Added a Dick Miles video now as well :-) |

Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: Raggytash Date: 22 Apr 20 - 08:35 AM Tony Morris from Whitby has already started a covideo folk club on faceache. It seems to be very popular so all credit to Tony. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: Dave the Gnome Date: 22 Apr 20 - 09:40 AM Added a video from Nick Dow - Thanks Nick - and a couple of playlists. One called "Videos of other Mudcatters" which is self explanatory but I haven't put mudcat names on them. I'd rather leave that to individuals. The other playlist is called "Other videos of interest" and I want to use that to link anyone or any music that may have come up in discussuon. I have just added one song by Walter Pardon to date. Any suggestions or ideas would be welcome. Is there anyone over the water from may that is happy to collaborate on this channel or am I going to have to volunteer someone :-) |
Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: Rusty Dobro Date: 22 Apr 20 - 01:01 PM From an IT illiterate: how do I move videos already on YouTube to the new channel? |
Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: Dave the Gnome Date: 22 Apr 20 - 02:29 PM Just post a link RD and I'll put them on the playlist or, if you prefer, send me the videos and I will post them. If you go for the latter just send one at a time though please. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: rich-joy Date: 22 Apr 20 - 06:48 PM I see that the 2 x links I posted above on 21April to Mudcat threads re Catters' You Tube Channels, only lead to "Server error" - serves me right for trying to do things without my glasses!!! Perhaps some kind MudElf could fix those links please??!! Ta! Cheers, R-J Fixed! |
Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: Nick Date: 22 Apr 20 - 09:24 PM You are welcome to add this if you want if it's suitable. It's me and the band I play with (called Accord) playing at a cafe in Scarborough. Even with my mistakes... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=27sx_Ju-Jgc |
Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: Nick Date: 22 Apr 20 - 09:37 PM Or this one - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wIoaRD4S4SU It's not folk but you'll perhaps recognise Pete Ryder's song which I learned from my Swinton visits a LONG time ago |
Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: Dave the Gnome Date: 23 Apr 20 - 08:03 AM I've put Nat Shapiro's time on the main page, Nick. I'll link the other on a playlist later. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: Stilly River Sage Date: 24 Apr 20 - 01:56 AM Dave, you started this thread - are you sorting Mudcat performances from all of the performances of others that Mudcatter's simply share because they like them? Are you looking at the Facebook page where these things get posted - you could grab links from those performances and ad them where appropriate on YouTube. That's enough work to keep you out of trouble for a while! |
Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: Dave the Gnome Date: 24 Apr 20 - 03:19 AM I'm putting performances by Mudcatters on, Stilly. There are also 2 playlists. One linking Mudcatter performances and one for videos of significance to Mudcatters. I'll have a look at the Facebook page and see how best to treat performances on their. Add to a playlist or upload the video. I'm still looking for a collaborator. Someone from the US if possible but not compulsory. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: Dave the Gnome Date: 24 Apr 20 - 04:12 AM I enjoyed it Guest but is it A) A Mudcatter B) Anything to do with May and C) Folk music? Raised a question I have pondered before. Is a place where they sell lots of Llamas a Llamarama and, if so, if you needed to attract and assistant with a bell, would that be a llamarama ding dong? |
Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: Doug Chadwick Date: 24 Apr 20 - 10:23 AM Is there a difference between the uploads shown under the Video tab and those shown on the 'Videos by Mudcatters' playlist? They all seem to be by Mudcatters, but none of the former appear with the latter and vice versa. DC |
Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: Doug Chadwick Date: 24 Apr 20 - 10:32 AM Also, "Nat Shapiro's Time performed by Nick and band" is still showing 'No views' but I have watched it all the way through. DC |
Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: Doug Chadwick Date: 24 Apr 20 - 10:38 AM Yet another question:- I see there are 8 subscribers. Is there any benefit or, indeed, any disadvantage to being a subscriber? DC |
Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: The Sandman Date: 24 Apr 20 - 12:41 PM good luck with it hope its a success |
Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: cnd Date: 24 Apr 20 - 12:52 PM Doug, My understanding is that the uploads are videos not previously published on YouTube, while the playlist is meant to assemble videos already posted on YouTube by 'Catters. The "no views" issue is a bug with YouTube -- it just takes a minute to tally a view. I think it has something to do with how they keep track of view statistics, but that's just speculation. The benefit of being a subscriber is that you would get notified via email when a video is posted (if you choose, though there are other settings) and that it makes the account and its new videos easier to find in the future. Rather than going here and finding the thread and then finding the link, you can simply type in youtube's address and then go to your subscriptions page. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: Dave the Gnome Date: 24 Apr 20 - 01:01 PM Almost, cnd, but I have 'pinched' a couple of videos that were already on YouTube to save having the double link. In principle though you are right so thank you for taking the time to explain. |

Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: treewind Date: 26 Apr 20 - 09:53 AM I've got loads of stuff on YouTube, some with my other half Mary Humphreys and some on my own, and much of the recent stuff a deliberate "lockdown" project to make up for the lack of live gigs and sessions. Here's a selection from the last month or so: The Tankard of Ale - old 3/2 English tune Red Running Rue - sung by Mary with me on 1 row melodeon The Merry Month / Squirrel Up a Tree - two jigs Geld Him Lasses / Hornpipe by Purcell - two more 3/2 hornpipes The Road To Poynton - tune by Robert Harbron played by me solo The Railway - jig played by me solo The Lady in the Boat / St George's Day two jigs, played by both of us The False Bride - sung by Mary with banjo The Trees They Grow So High - version collected in Cambridgeshire, sung by Mary A Sailors Life - sung by Mary unaccompanied Knole Park / One More Dance and Then - played by Mary and me Pajdusko Horo - Macedonian dnce tune in 5/8 time played by me Watson's Hornpipe - multitracked two melodeons + cello Feel free to add some or any of those to the playlist. Lots more (especially melodeon tunes) on my YouTube channel Anahata |

From: Dave the Gnome Date: 28 Apr 20 - 05:25 PM Hi Mooh Sorry about this but https://www.youtube.com/feed/my_videos just shows the videos of whoever you are logged in as, in my case the Mudcat Channel :-( If you send me a links to a couple of your videos rather than the main page I will get them on. Alternatively, if you have your own channel or YouTube ID send me a link to that and I will do the necessary on our channel. Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: Doug Chadwick Date: 18 May 20 - 07:25 PM After one month, I am disappointed by the lack of response to the Mudcat YouTube channel, even allowing for the vagueries of the way views are counted by YouTube. I didn't expect the videos to go viral but I did expect more interest from Mudcat members, if only out of curiosity, to put faces to names. Dave, I have e-mailed a link to my rendition of "Ain't Nobody's Business". Could you upload it please. We might as well give it another go and see if we can generate any more interest. DC |
Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: cnd Date: 18 May 20 - 09:40 PM Personally, I wish I could help with a video, but I'm not much of a performer, either vocally or instrumentally. I'll watch the videos, though! |

Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: Doug Chadwick Date: 19 May 20 - 02:38 PM Thanks for adding the video Dave but I am wondering why this month's contribution appears in a different location to last months. I understood that the "Videos by Mudcaters" playlist was for videos already published elsewhere on YouTube. My two contributions are in the public section of my YouTube channel, but only so that you could get to them to upload onto the Mudcat channel. I would have expected them both to be included under the Video tab. DC |

Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: Chris Nightbird Date: 22 May 20 - 07:46 PM The Mudcat channel is a great idea! It would be a good place to see everyone perform. Let's make it happen! |
Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: rich-joy Date: 23 May 20 - 02:27 AM Like Doug Chadwick (May18th), I was surprised and a tad disappointed at the dearth of responses regarding clips of Catters to be added to the new You Tube “Mudcat Channel” started recently by Dave the Gnome. There had been an earlier thread detailing Catter clips (that runs from 2008 – 2018) and it was fairly popular – but the continuing thread that I started “for the new decade” of 2020 onwards, has not really garnered much attention! So I investigated that early thread to see if many of the earlier music submissions were still online – and almost all that I checked (from HEAPS of links), were still playing!! True, some of our Catters have passed on, but often their music remains (for now at least). I started at the bottom (from the latest posts) and in general, only chose to look at the latest link posted by a Mudcat Member whose name I recognised from over the years. Also a couple of Guests whom I recognised as regular Posters. Now, I realise that my recognition means doodley squat, but, I had to start somewhere and I couldn’t watch EVERYTHING!! :) So I have taken the liberty of picking out from my many viewings, just a few of those that took my fancy on that day - and I sure hope it’s okay to highlight them here, Dave! – and just maybe some could be added to the new Mudcat channel???????? Q. BUT, would you have to get permission all over again??? I dunno ….. I would hope not :( In no particular order : Tonight’s the Night for Drinking – Sally (Catter “The Lemonade Lady”) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BBqTNbdFDEg&feature=youtu.be Mister Stormalong - All Hands led by Richard Adrianowicz (Catter “Radriano”) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t_ETdFJScKY&list=UUU5Ol2ZDeCq59_4VfRbdqUQ&index=8&feature=plcp The Key Of R – Catter “Joe Offer” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZFAxlvdWMFI Miles from Home – Catter “Jed Marum” with Hot Corn Band https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ewb-9JuvTXk&feature=channel_video_title Sixteen Monkeys – Marty Kohn (Catter “Cool Beans”) with Craig Porter https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Tzc3w1aRaA Hush Hush Jimbob – James Connell (Catter “cujimmy”) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1g-qJeTMWyA Joe Turner Blues – Catter “Dan Schatz” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3KxY7UYVmB8 Oh No, My Love, Not I – Hilary Ward (Catter “My Guru Always Said”) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cv0MzDWCtoA Peggy and the Soldier – Catter “Terrier” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R6nJ9eOwerI&feature=related Got My Mojo Workin' - Amos Jessup (Catter “Amos”) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1wODk-yZkSo Rolling Home – Peter Bugden (Catter “Bugsy”) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NftgXuTvU9A&ytsession=VmjhWbYK-AAALz3pPA0VDngZ6xmocPUKcKMnFxu-IAITpKdFoYCGqqRYYMfLRws3akOnM8dvw_ Sidewalk Bob and Suitcase Slim - The History of Mississippi Blues - (Catter “Bobert”) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9FwxZzcFDeE The Very Sad Tale of Monsters in Our Town – Catter “CapriUni” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N0TM_sr_bl8&feature=youtu.be Mr Fox's Equinox - Sedayne (Catter “GUEST, Suibhne Astray”) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lzBlXsgOkyE Rodeo Cowboy Bill Pickett – Catter “Mark Ross” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l-N1q5caI5E The Comfort of Singing Voices – Noreen Keene (Catter “Noreen”) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mWAQ9NhEupI Bittersuite: Joy - Michael Joseph Thomas (Catter “Guest from Sanity”) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a5KxWHbWVO4&feature=related Don't Pity Me - Max Spiegel (#1 Catter “MAX”) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6qEi5CUPPFw China Blue – Zingari Swing (includes Catter “Y Not”) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LIkfpUwXJro Interview with Max Spiegel (Mr Mudcat) - (Catter “Mr Red”) https://myspace.com/cresbydotcom/video/interview-with-max-spiegel-mr-mudcat-/106562580 (This one I couldn’t make play, but I’d like to hear it, Mr Red!) Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: Rex Date: 03 Jun 20 - 02:36 PM Dave, I've been a 'Catter since the days of Digital Tradition and am happy to support this project. I've been able to visit the Mudcat channel but when I attempt to upload a video it appears to steer me into creating a new channel. It seems I can't do it. For what it's worth I have my own channel. If the mechanics of all this make it handy to move videos from my channel to the Mudcat channel you are most welcome to any and all of them. If it is better for me to upload them myself I fear I need a bit of direction if you please. Kindly let me know. The link to my channel is below. Rex Rideout youtube channel |
Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: Dave the Gnome Date: 06 Jun 20 - 02:29 AM Hi Rex. No, you can't upload. Only cnd and I are managers of the channel at the moment. I will take a look at your channel and put some of your stuff on the Mudcat one. |

Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: Dave the Gnome Date: 08 Jun 20 - 02:57 PM I've done down to the end of Reggie's list. Where there is a lot, like Reggie's, I have put a couple on the 'front page' and the rest on the playlist of videos by Mudcatters. I saw that GfS's video was too large to upload so I have put that on the playlist too. |

Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: Dave the Gnome Date: 22 Jun 20 - 09:57 AM OK - I'm up to date apart from some I got by PM which I will put up now. Rex - I have put one of yours on the 'Front Page' and 3 or 4 on the playlist "Videos by Mudcatters" Pete - I could not get at your video. You need to make it public. If anyone wants anything specific putting on the front page or adding to the playlist, let me or cnd know. Cheers Dave |

Subject: RE: Muldcat YouTube channel? From: GUEST,Lin Date: 01 Jul 20 - 10:31 PM To Joe Offer, Hi Joe. Need your help. On June 24, 2020 I posted about a New Jersey singer songwriter named Mike Sinatra. I don't know how to post where people can click on those two songs to actually take you to those songs that I mentioned. Joe, if you have time, could you please enter that on my post? Thank you in advance. Lin |
Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: cnd Date: 01 Jul 20 - 11:17 PM Lin: At the bottom of the page, to the right of the "submit message" button is some blue-colored text that says "Make a link ('blue clicky')" -- click on that. It will open a page in a new tab. In the first line of the form (to the right of the words "Link URL" copy and paste your link from YouTube. In the second line, paste what words you want the link to say (for example, if the video is of the song "We Don't Know Why" you would put the link to that song in the first box and the words We Don't Know Why in the second box). Once you're done, click "create link" and it will give you something that looks like this: We Don't Know Why Then copy and paste that into the posting box that you type in and boom -- you've got a link! |
