Not bad for a beginner... although "very nice" is stretching it a bit. Leaving Joseph Spence himself out of the equation, the best version of the song is undoubtedly John Renbourn's, which is available on one of Stefan Grossman's Guitarvideo DVDs. There is another John Renbourn performance on Youtube ... which is not as good as the Guitarvideo performance, but still brilliant (how could it not be ? Ed Gerhard has a passable version up on Youtube ... it doesn't have the flow of Renbourn's version, but pleasant enough nonetheless. I have a distinct recollection of hearing Martin and Norma Carthy singing this as well, but for the life of me I can't remember which album it was on. |
