Subject: RE: Origins: Index of shantys? From: Mysha Date: 06 May 20 - 04:47 PM Thanks Joe, I'm used to contributors who are perfectly willing to share information, but are less keen on those same words being reused in an online site, hence I try to be careful when I intent to forward information that way. Also, some people will answer me, assuming I have vast knowledge, while it's usually the lack of such knowledge that is the reason for me asking. Asking for permission gives them another opportunity to check that their words can be understood by the uninitiated. Mysha |
Subject: RE: Origins: Index of shantys? From: Joe Offer Date: 06 May 20 - 03:06 PM Hi, Mysha - for the most part you are free to share anything posted at Mudcat. Right off, I can't think of anything on Muscat that you can't share. |
Subject: RE: Origins: Index of shantys? From: Steve Gardham Date: 06 May 20 - 01:35 PM You should be able to filter in a chanty index using the Roud Index at VWML online. Gibb Schreffler's study of the published collections of chanties would cover that admirably. It's not expensive. Title 'Boxing the Compass'. Highly recommended. |

Subject: RE: Origins: Index of shantys? From: Joe Offer Date: 05 May 20 - 08:21 PM Hi, Mysha - if you put index in the Filter box on the main Mudcat page and set the date back to "all," you'll see all our Index threads. This thread (click) should keep you busy for a long, long time. Most of the books listed in that thread are out of print - but many are available for download at archive.org or books.google.com For the most part, we intentionally did not index the books already covered by the Traditional Ballad Index.
Hope that helps. |
Subject: RE: Origins: Index of shantys? From: GUEST,Starship Date: 05 May 20 - 07:47 PM There is a thread with a load of lists on it. Saw it and can't find it now. However, I did see it. |
Subject: Origins: Index of shanties? From: Mysha Date: 05 May 20 - 07:22 PM Hi, The FaceGroup wonders whether we have an index of Shanties from the most common shanty books. Do we? Mysha |
