This is a song of our times which if you give it a listen you'll have to learn. I'll add a link to a video but here are the lyrics and an approximation of the chords:

By Alan Magee, ©2016/2020
Singing in the Dark Times
A------------D-------------E-------------A
Will there be singing in the dark times to come?
A----D----------------E-----------A-----------------D
Will brash, unbridled evil cloud our wits and strike us dumb?
E------------------------------D--------------------A
Will there be rhythms, and harmonies, and rhymes?
A------------D-------------------E------------------A
Will there be songs? Will we be singing—in the dark times?
A--------D-------------E-------------------------A
When empathy is wrong and wrath is right
A----------D-------------------E-----------------A-------------------D
When a ghastly shroud blacks out the sun, and turns the day to night
D----------------------E----------------------A
When malice is a virtue and grace a sin
A--------D--------------------------E-------------A
When it’s all turned upside down, and outside in
When facts are banned and we’re left with only lies (same chords as verse above)
When we hear the wildfires crackle, and watch the waters rise
When violence against a woman is excused
When our planet’s final plea—has been refused
chorus
When the weak are blamed for everything that’s wrong
When we watch the dispossession, of the ones who don’t belong
E--------------------------------D-------------------A
When the poor and sick can die if they can’t pay
A-------------D----------------------E----------------A
When our plans for a better world—have blown away
When the demons have been loosed, and dressed like men
They were only names in a history book, but they’ve come back again
E----------------------------D-----------A
With play things that they’ve never had before
A---D--------------------E------------A
So I’m gonna’ sing ‘till I can’t sing—anymore.
revised chorus
There will be singing in the dark times to come
We won’t let evil cloud our wits, nor will it strike us dumb
E-------------------------D-------------A
We’ll have rhythms, and harmonies, and rhymes
A-------------D--------------------E-----------------A
There will be songs, and we’ll be singing, in the dark times (repeat chorus after two beats)
There will be songs, and we’ll be singing, in the dark times. (tag line)

Cheerily,
Charlie Ipcar

I've known Alan Magee as an artist in Maine for years but I was unaware that he also composed songs and sang them.

Here's a second attempt to get the chords lined up (Key switched from A to C) and a bit of tweaking of the lyrics:

By Alan Magee, ©2016/2020
Slightly adapted by Charlie Ipcar
Key: G (7/C)

Singing in the Dark Times

Chorus:

C----------------G---------------F--------------C
Will there be singing in the dark times to come?
------G-------------------F-----------C-------------------------G
Will brash, unbridled evil cloud our wits and strike us dumb?
-----------------F------------------------G----------C
Will there be rhythms, and harmo-nies, and rhymes?
----------------G--------------------E------------------------C
Will there be songs? Will we be singing—in the dark times?

---------G------------F--------------------C
When empathy is wrong and wrath is right;
-----------G-----------------------F-------------------C---------------------G
When a ghastly shroud blacks out the sun, and turns bright day to night;
----------F-------------------------------C
When malice is a virtue and grace a sin;
------------G--------------------F-------------------C
When it’s all turned upside down, and outside in.

When facts are banned and we’re left with only lies;
When we hear the wildfires crackle, and watch the waters rise;
When violence ‘gainst a woman is excused;
When our planet’s final plea—has been refused. (CHO)

When the weak are blamed for everything that’s wrong;
When we watch the dispossession, of the ones who don’t belong;
-------------F--------------------G-------------------C
When the poor and sick can die if they cannot pay;
--------------G-------------------F----------------------C
When our plans for a better world—have blown a-way.

When the demons have been loosed, and dress like men;
They were only names in a history book, but they’ve come back here again,
--------F--------------------------G--------------C
With play things that they’ve never had be-fore,
---------G------------------F------------------C
So I’m gonna’ sing ‘till I can’t sing—any-more.

Final Chorus:

There will be singing in the dark times to come;
We won’t let evil cloud our wits, nor will it strike us dumb;
--------------F-----------------------G-----------C
We’ll have rhythms, and harmo-nies, and rhymes;
-----------------G--------------------F----------------------C
There will be songs, and we’ll be singing, in the dark times --
-----------------G---------------------F-----------------------C
There will be songs, and we’ll be singing, in the dark times.

Nice song, Charley!

By the way, if you ever want to do it without the dashes, if you do < pre > TEXT and < / pre > (without spaces) at the start and end of the song, it will appear as formatted in the text box (though a full page wide instead of about 1/3)
