Before the thread falls off the 3-days' list, let me say that the idea underlying this song is just great! Nancy Schimmel's genre of Feel-Good is not exactly my taste; her audience (– Joe for one) will love the song. I can imagine a different treatment of the topic, with more emphasis on the disastrous circumstances, e.g. mentioning the military convoy that transported the corpses from Bergamo. Singing in and against despair. |
Subject: Lyr Add: Open Your Windows and Sing (Schimmel) From: Joe Offer Date: 26 May 20 - 12:18 PM Well, Grishka, that's another side of this life. There's room for both. The phrase "smiling through her tears" goes back to the Iliad. Keep on the sunny side. Maybe listening to The Berrymans will cure what ails you. OPEN YOUR WINDOWS AND SING (Nancy Schimmel) People in Italy worried, What the next day would bring They couldn't visit their neighbors, But they could open their windows and sing. CHORUS Open your windows and sing. Open your windows and sing. Open your windows and sing. When you don't know what else to do, Open your windows and sing. Only took one voice to start it, Two and then three joining in, Echoing off all the buildings, Making the narrow street ring! Soon the song hit the airwaves Carrying hope on its wing. Rounding the world to greet us, Open your windows and sing. Creative Commons Copyright 2020 by Nancy Schimmel www.sisterschoice.com Nancy has a quarter rest and a whole rest at the end of every line. I think the quarter rest would suffice (which is the way she sings it), but I transcribed the tune as she notated it. Click to play (joeweb)http://www.sisterschoice.com/openWindows.mp3 |
