The attribute "by the daughter of Malvina Reynolds" may have the same effect as "from the Holy Father" when read to a Catholic congregation – not expecting a reply.

Before the thread falls off the 3-days' list, let me say that the idea underlying this song is just great! Nancy Schimmel's genre of Feel-Good is not exactly my taste; her audience (– Joe for one) will love the song.

I can imagine a different treatment of the topic, with more emphasis on the disastrous circumstances, e.g. mentioning the military convoy that transported the corpses from Bergamo. Singing in and against despair.

Well, Grishka, that's another side of this life. There's room for both. The phrase "smiling through her tears" goes back to the Iliad. Keep on the sunny side. Maybe listening to The Berrymans will cure what ails you.

Nancy has a quarter rest and a whole rest at the end of every line. I think the quarter rest would suffice (which is the way she sings it), but I transcribed the tune as she notated it.
