Following the murder of George Floyd by chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer, who would ever want to visit USA again???

I wouldn't dream of going to the USA for any reason, mind I've got several American made instruments, mandolins.

You have to admit the cleverness of the racist killer cop for appearing non chalant for 9 minutes, with his hands in his pockets and whistling while he worked. The cop strangled a big man to death without breaking the hyoid bone!

For all you stranglers out there, that is really hard to do.
Judges gave him a 10 for technical and a 9 on required elements.
A shout out goes to the victim for being extremely polite and cooperative throughout.

A speed record was also set. Usually it takes a white policeman a year to be charged with murdering a black man. The 3rd degree murder charges are called 'a depraved heart murder'. Manslaughter charges have also been brought. The 3 backup cops who helped as assesories have not been charged.

For three minutes after there were no signs of life in George Floyd's body, the killer maintained his knee on George's neck. That is precisely the time 3rd degree murder became first degree murder.

Um, no. Intent does not form after the fact. Either they intended to kill him before the attack began, or they didn't. And if they had, shooting him would have made more sense.

And what about arresting all the nonwhite CNN guys but not the white ones?

In Court my argument would prevail but beyond that Minnesota has upcharging rules that allow for 1st degree murder be considered by the jury.

The USA should be run by a Council of Native Americans & those who don't like it can repatriate to Europe, Africa, etc. The Trump family, e.g., may choose Scotland or Slovenia; my poem, from WalkaboutsVerse, on "Repatriating"

Not really, Mrrzy. Far easier to claim ‘accidental’ than it would be if they shot him.

Mrrzy, there was also an incident in Louisville where a reporter and crew were shot with pepper bullets and I believe another reporter was shoved to the ground by an officer. Are we seeing the beginning of trend of widespread targeting of the media by police? After all, the free press of this country has been under attack by its Commander-in-Chief for years. The first casualty of war is truth, and if anyone thinks that's not war out there tonight, just wait a bit.

Stop it, WAV. This is no place for your treacle.

Murdered (alleged) would be fine also.

The whole place isn't going to Hell in a Handbasket, it just seems like it at the moment. Every time you think things under Trump couldn't get worse, he says "hold my beer."

Police and citizens marched together this evening in Camden, New Jersey, and people are trying to quickly sort out the white extremists who are trying to blow everything up from the regular peaceful protesters. Trump offering to send the military to Minneapolis probably is a stupid move (simply because anything Trump does is stupid.) The military isn't supposed to go into law enforcement situations unless it is an extreme emergency. People are hard-pressed to deal with protesters right now, but it doesn't rise to the level that the military should be called in. I'm willing to bet what Trump wants is a way to declare martial law. Make himself look real presidential, it will. Of a banana republic.

This incident reminded me vividly of footage I saw, when young, (cinema newsreels) of the treatment of Jews in Germany by the Gestapo etc. Psychopathic disregard of their humanity, and evident sadistic pleasure taken in tormenting/torturing/beating/killing of defenceless civilians.
It's absolutely chilling, and I'm not surprised that riots have ensued.
It's murder, but also a racist atrocity.

Speaking of a language peeve, for two days every report stated that George Floyd was transported to the hospital where he later died. Having watched the video I was certain that the victim was dead before he was picked up from the ground. My wife, an RN, was able to point out the exact moment he drew his last.
Finally after two days of misinformation, the fire department issued a statement that Mr Floyd had never had a pulse from the time he was put in the ambulance. Even when paramedics used the paddles they couldn't raise one.

In answer to you question, Bonzo, I'd go again at the drop of a hat. We stay with my cousin when we are there and meet ordinary, everyday American citizens who, like the rest of us, are mostly decent, honest and law abiding. Don't tar an entire nation with same brush as a few racist criminals.

I have a number of friends in Houston TX where I used to spend time each year (former colleagues at my employer‘s Houston office), every one is a Republican, and they are amongst the friendliest, most kind and hospitable people I know - I’ve had some great times in their company, and our political differences have never been an issue on either side.

On Saturday, “Liberal Redneck” Trae Crowder posted a lengthy Facebook condemnation of police violence, slamming “out of control” cops and calling for justice.

“I got a question. How come nobody ever talks about how often Black people don’t riot?” said Crowder. “I mean, all the sh*t they put up with every day for generations without rioting? Meanwhile, a bunch of white people’s hockey team loses, they burn it all to the ground? … But you can only push people so far, and apparently, they draw the line at wanton public murder at the hands of the law. And I, for one, am not going to criticize that.”

“As far as I’m concerned, the blame for what is happening in Minneapolis lies solely with the Minneapolis Police,” said Crowder. “To put simply, if you don’t want your town ripped apart by riots, then to paraphrase ’90s Jim Carrey, stop murdering people, assh*le! Shouldn’t be that hard. The rest of us seem to manage.”

I guess there's some sort of "virtue signaling" competition.
In any case, as I heard someone else point out, somewhere, the violence usually doesn't start until the cops show up. Personally, I think I'd want to burn some shit down. I don't like people getting hurt, but it's pretty much been proven that folks won't DO anything until the riots start.

Language peeve again... In a Slate article. I read this morning and now can't find, the author referred to this death as a lynching. Nonono no no. A lynching is when a) the mob takes the victim *away* from the justice system, not when the members *of* the justice system kill said victim, and b) the victim is *hanged* by said mob.

Mob shoots suspect without trial, not a lynching.

Cops hang suspect without a trial, still not a lynching.

It's like terrorism: armed troops in uniform committing violence on civilians is a war crime, not terrorism. Civilians committing violence on armed uniformed troops is a rebellion, not terrorism.

Using such loaded terms to cover other crimes is merely inflammatory.

Ok, rant off.

Sorry to point this out but the death is one thing and is sort of being dealt with.

But the riots are the result of Trump being president. His rhetoric is not just strident, but seditious. How often has he said and gestured shooting on his election rallies?

Threats beget threats, and any trigger can spill over to violence.

J'Accuse.

Bill de Blasio is now blaming the demonstrations on "outside agitators".

Jaysus, NY City is now Mississippi in 1963.

The outside agitators came.
They burned some churches and put the blame,
On decent southern people's names,
To set our colored people aflame.
And maybe some of our boys got hot,
And a couple of ni**ers and reds got shot,
They should have stayed where they belong,
And preacher would've told us if we'd done wrong.

There's an entitled response.

The lion's share of the looting is not being generated by the protesters. Protesters are protesting. Looters are looting. They're not the same people. Keep your eye on the ball.

mudelf, for a short time 3 days ago this very thread appeared to 'me' to be gone/removed as well as other remarks about the demonstrations elsewhere. At that time I thought that was a horrid decision.
There are probably other explanations but they are moot now.
Like signs I've seen, "silence is violence".

I keep an eye on white supremecist web sites and they tell you all you need to know about bombs, incindiary devices and inciting race wars at demonstrations. 'boogaloo boys'

By declaring an Insurrection the president may only send the military to states where the govenor has asked the federal government for troops.

Instead of a press conference Trump waddle marched accross the street after mounted police had cleared the street with tear gas and was given a bible that he held up in front of a church sign that said "services online". He stood for pictures for about 3 minutes and tossed the bible to an aid and waddled home.

He may not have crossed the Rubicon but a short while ago he did cross Pennsylvania Ave. to stand in front of St. John's Church holding up a bible for a photo op for his 35-40%, after his troops forced peaceful protesters out of Lafayette Park with rubber bullets, flash bangs and brute force. It's now official, we are a banana republic with a tinpot dictator.
