I have my old albums (started out as cassettes became CDs) on Bandcamp as downloads, whole album or track by track.

Seeing as I have done very few solo gigs over the years I have never had many physical items to sell.
I should probably have a few solo CDs to take to trio gigs, the other two do!

Angie Wright who gives a portion of All her CD sales to the Scottish Mental Health Charity SAMH has hers for sale on Spotify Amazon and a few other platforms.

She also sells them through her old.... very old website Taggart and Wright.

Had only just set up the Spotify bit when told that she should have used Band camp. But not got round to it yet.

She also sells them at her gigs in The Twa Tams in Perth UK...... well will do after Covid.

Hi Anne - you may have considered this already and not found it viable but there are a lot of cassette sales on Bandcamp, surprisingly. Mainly in the experimental/alternative genres but it should be easy enough to sell them. As you’ve already got the infrastructure in place, maybe worth a try? I’ve bought a lot of cassettes off Bandcamp (along with downloads and occasional vinyl/cd) over the last couple of years...

I still sell via CDBaby, and also through Bandcamp and via my own website. The big advantage to CDBaby is that it's cheaper to fulfil orders outside the UK as they deal with the p&p, and they pay me regularly for physical and download sales via PayPal, which avoids bank charges for currencies. The disadvantage of both CDBaby and Bandcamp is that yes, of course they charge for their services by means of deducting from the total sales, and then PayPal also takes a cut. But then I'd lose out on bank charges anyway and there's a convenience to both CDBaby and Bandcamp. Bandcamp allows me to put up lyrics and album notes, and allows purchasers to pay more if they wish, but it's a bit trickier to sell physical CDs. CDBaby also distributes over more digital platforms. Both CDBaby and Bandcamp are definitely concentrating more on digital than physical albums.
Overall I am definitely selling far fewer physical albums these days, and I know that they sell better on live gigs - which of course aren't happening. I still also have a stack of cassettes, which are simply gathering dust as I don't know how to dispose of them in any kind of eco-friendly way.

1. You are paying to Bandcamp. The artist will ship the items.

2. When you put an item into the shopping card you can select the country you're buying from. The price is then shown in the country's currency, without VAT.

3. Just buy ;-) The shipping costs will probably be quite large as you will see in the shopping cart.

5. Payment will be with PayPal. I don't think they accept cheques.

6. You'll get the complete CD with case and inserts, and you can download the album too. Some artists also include the inserts as a PDF with their digital albums.

I just went to the Bandcamp for the first time tonight so
not yet too familiar with it yet.

1 When you buy a CD are you actually sending your payment
to an address for Bandcamp or to the artist?

2. Some CD's are from artists in UK and cost is shown
in the foreign currancy for UK.

3. I am in USA so how do I buy CDs from artists in UK?

4. Is this site anything similiar to buying from the old
site, CD Baby who's offices were in Portland, Oregon
I believe.

5. Does Bandcamp accept personal checks?
(CD Baby did)

6. When you buy a CD on Bandcamp, are you getting the
CD and the insert that comes with most CD's,including
the printed lyrics which some artists include?
Or are you just getting the CD and no insert?

Liked Woven Wheat Whispers site but they took it down, hacking problems. Local shops and tourist info all folded.
Boxes of CDs in the wardrobe but no problem as I can't afford any clothes.

Fwiw: Process analysis pedantry – Obsolescent, is not yet obsolete. ie: In transition. I still collect reel-to-reel & piano rolls. It's all good.

Where do American school and public libraries order media from nowadays? Way, way, waaaaaay back in the day, they had a kind of monthly “greensheet” for books, vinyl and periodicals. I don't think Folkways could have stayed in business as long as they did without the massive institutional patronage they got from it.

Another vote for Bandcamp. Yes they take a slice, but so will your local record shop and you don't have the hassle of keeping them stocked up.

I don't think the CD is obsolete where folk music is concerned. Perhaps it's the older demographic, but I prefer to have physical product which I own, rather than rights in something intangible which can disappear. I can still rip or download copies to my phone.

I buy most of my music either directly from the artist's website or from Bandcamp. The latter has the advantage that when I buy a CD (including all printed matter) I can also download the music immediately. Many Bandcamp pages also show album details (musicians, song lyrics and history) online that I miss on other download or straming services.

Closed my Ebay account yesterday. And then there was one… sigh.

CEO Devin Wenig resigned last September. When they name an “interim” replacement it usually means not everyone was on the same corporate page so to speak.

The other shoe dropped just this week. Google (or maybe Duckduck?) “Ebay” “cyberstalking.” To be clear, Wenig's not indicted… yet.

And in keeping with the current headlines… ringleader Brian Gilbert is the recently retired Chief of the Santa Clara Police Department, just up the road from Ebay headquarters in San Jose, CA.

Wenig's still a director of General Motors' autonomous vehicle division. One doesn't exactly have to be a tin foil hatter type to think Ebay's boardroom having remote access to that sort of thing is a bit scary.

My natural milieu is contemporary experimental music, so the dynamics are different to trad folk of course, but I fully agree that Bandcamp is pretty good for selling both downloads and physical media.

They do take a cut, as you'd expect... But it also has the virtue of forming something of a grass roots sales ecology - acts that are on there can link their pages to peers and fellow travellers, etc. So if it looks serviceable for your own needs, it could be good to try and encourage like-minded artists and labels to get on there, too!

In terms of independent highstreet outlets that might have any interesting in taking trad CDs these days - the small Hobgoblin Music chain of instrument shops springs to mind, but I wouldn't wish to overstate that.

Quite a few physical media sites have closed up shop in the past couple years. Discogs & Ebay are the two highest profile CD marketplaces left. The specific genre or media really dosesn't matter much anymore.

And, as you note, it's really an obsolescent format. It's more about file downloading now.

Other than your own website, where do you find the best places on th3 internet to sell hard copies of your CDs? With. Ore people turning to digital downloads, do you still find a market for your CDs? For trad music, I do still see a market for them, as some friends are still producing CDs along with digital copies. Custys music shop in Ireland sells CDs, and ai noticed Irish musicians are still producing them in hard copy. Also, Trad musicians I know here in the U.S. Still are. A friend recommended Bandcamp. I’m curious about your perspectives and recommendations. I’ve got boxfulls of not yet sold CDs, released 2006-2010. Any recommendati9ns for companies who do both digital downloads and hard copy sales are very welcome. Thanks!
