Just as wonderful as the singing was the actual conversation afterward. Knowledgeable, cheerful people, so polite that they didn't have to mute. %^)

Waddon Pete has a special talent for marking events, as evidenced by his In Memoriam Permathread. He tells me our singaroud on November 30 will be our 25th singaround. I had no idea we had done so many. Every one of them has been delightful - and almost all of them have lasted 5 hours!
Here's hoping we will have many more, even after we're able to get together in person to sing.

The lyrics to Andy's Gone with Cattle are in the Digital Tradition. Maybe /mudcat.org/@displaysong.cfm?SongID=286 will get you there.

There are a couple of mondegreens in the DT version. "cheat" should be "cheek", and "tomorrow" should be "torrents".

Thanks, SPB. Bradfordian, Andy's Gone with Cattle is not a parody, it's a poem written by the Australian poet Henry Lawson in 1888, set to a tune collected by John Manifold.

gerry, for your list, the titles of the two songs I did were:

Somebody Would Shout Out Shop   (Weston & Lee - 1915), and
The Gallant Shopping (Lyrics S P Belsey - 1986, Tune Trad)

I’ve not been logging the songs I do on Mudcat Zoom. On 16th I did a poem “November” by Thomas Hood.which is listed as “No Sun, no moon”

Nice to see that someone else sang “More hills to climb”, it’s a great song that I have done previously on Mudcat Zoom.

On another note, “Andy’s gone with cattle” sounds interesting. If that’s a parody, anyone have the lyrics to share?
Brad.

Noreen - I own up! It was myself who sang Song For Vic...

And Gerry M - here's what i can tell you about the first few items:
Joe Offer started with Right Said Fred
then Pelagie read the Les Barker poem My Bag For Life Has Just Died
then I sang Frankie's Trade (Kipling-Bellamy)
then Anne Gregson sang her own composition I Don't Need You
then Monique sang a French ditty which revolved around Ding-dong but i didn't catch the title although I believe Joe had it in the chat log.
After that you're on track with Noreen's beautiful rendition of Ranter's Wharf.
Hope that helps.
Cheers!
Monique sang "Les filles des forges"

I tried to make a list of all the songs/poems that were performed, in order, at the Singaround on 16/17 November 2020. I came in half an hour into proceedings, so I missed maybe half-a-dozen at the beginning. And there were a few where I didn't get a name, just a topic. Here's what I have:

Ranter's Wharf
Bring Us Good Ale
A Chat with Your Mother
Le P'tit Bonheur
Frankie and Johnny
Rolling and Tumbling
Viva La Quince Brigada
Shocking Murders in Whitechapel
Rupert the Ranger
Everybody Knows Me in My Old Brown Hat
Jamboree Jones
Send Me to Glory in a Glad Bag
Congo River
I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel To Be Free
The Rains Have Come Again
We'll Chant Away Until Dawn
And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda
Thiepval
[Shout Out Shop]
Vegematic
I Still Miss Someone
Le Chinois
Mary was an Only Child
I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry
Such a Nice Girl, Too
No Sun, No Moon
Ballad of Dog Dually
Cannily, Cannily
Rock Me Baby
Whaleroad
Light of a Clear Blue Morning
Do Me Ama
Turn the Lathe Gently
King of Rome
The Willow Tree
Sally Free and Easy
Fanny Blair
The Barley Mow

There was a request for the words to the parody I sang on Monday (Nov 16th), so here it is (I've also added it to the "'Fall of Trump' songs" thread).

Nobody knows where my vict'ry has gone
Rudy said it would be mine
Joey and Kam are ruining my plan
To rule to the end of time

It's my party and I'll lie if I want to
Lie if I want to, lie if I want to
You would lie too if it happened to you

Playing my mindgames on election night
Tweeting that mail-ins are frauds
Any vote cast that was not for me
Just ain't the will of the Lawd

It's my party and they'll lie if I say so
Lie if I say so, lie if I say so
You would lie too if you wanted a coup

Antifa libtards all think they have won
But I'll show them they are wrong
Oh what a bigly surprise
I've had advice from Kim Jong

It's my party and they'll lie if I say so
Lie if I say so, lie if I say so
You would lie too if you wanted a coup

Some nasty people think all votes should count
Whether or not they're for me
So bad they can't understand
Wake up and smell the covfefe

It's my Whitehouse and I'll stay if I want to
Stay if I want to, stay if I want to
You would stay too if you wanted a coup
You would lie too if you wanted a coup
You would lie too if it happened to you

Come join us and sing on Monday, November 9. We start singing at Noon Los Angeles, 3 PM New York, and 8 PM London time. And some hardy souls from New Zealand and Australia will join us at the crack of dawn Tuesday. Doors open half an hour beforehand for cocktails and conversation. We sing two times around the group, which takes 4 to 5 hours, and then we have a cocktail hour afterwards.

I've emailed out the link for Monday's sing just now. If you're not on the list and would like to be, contact me by email, joe@mudcat.org.

Hope to sing with you soon.

Another delightful singaround. I'm glad Tim/Voyager came and sang the version of 'Fox Went Out on a Chilly Night' that was passed on through his family. I think I'll take up that version myself, but I wanted to hear if from somebody who knew it first.
Such wonderful singing and such nice people, every Monday.

I've noticed that their are quite a few parodies about trump floating round. I know we don't do themes, but with the looming election and the gloom and doom around the world if anyone has any they can share it might lend itself to some much needed levity... On a selfish note, preferably after I am able to get to the session.

A very spooky day of songs. Lots of good singing, some of it moderately scary. My house generator lasted all day on a 6-gallon tank of gas, and the mains power finally came on as our singaround was ending.
One woman from the San Francisco Bay area sang a "Broken Token" song. When she introduced the song, she said it was written by Vikki Appleton Fielden. I started to introduce Vikki to the singer, but Vikki shushed me. So, we all held our tongues while the singer sang Vikki's song - and we all got a good laugh out of it afterwards. The woman sang very well, and Vikki was thrilled to have somebody sing her song.
Thank you all for a wonderful gathering.
Back to the usual times for next week's gathering. This daylight savings discrepancy lasts only one week, and then the US and UK are back in sync again.

-Joe-

We missed you, Casey. Hope the electric power is back on at your wilderness home. Thanks to Noreen for doing a great job of hosting, and to Dawn for assisting.

Hi, Everyone -

I hope you will be able to join us for Monday's Mudcat Worldwide Singaround on 26 Oct It will be at the usual 8 PM London time, but an hour later than usual in the rest of the world (1 PM Los Angeles, 4 PM New York) - due to the vagaries of the change from Daylight Savings Time. We'll be back in sync next week.

Could be interesting - Casey and I have been threatened with an electric power blackout, but Noreen and others have volunteered to fill in if we can't make it.

See you Monday.

I sent out the email just now. If you'd like to be included on the email list, contact me, joe@mudcat.org

For security reasons, we change the URL/address of the singaround every week, and post the URL here in this thread for only a short time.

Thanks, Sarah. I'm glad you liked it.

I thought my voice sounded pretty bad, (it being ragweed season) but now I think that since we are right on top of our own voices, so to speak, we hear minor imperfections that listeners do not.

I encountered the same thing with a recorder once. I made a tape of myself, and I sounded better than I thought I did.

But I wish I had a clear, reliable voice like you, Schlomo and Noreen.
==============
As for the other matter, it's hard to believe that 80 or 90% of the group had an errand at the same time. And attention doesn't have to be avid; it's enough if a person moves a little once in a while. But that's over now. People were back for the last session.

It people are singing and having connection problems, I will sometimes switch off their video so the sound comes through better. This is not meant as an insult (usually ;-)

They should feel free to switch their video back on once they're finished singing.

The other thing is, that if people are having problems with their broadband connection, it helps to switch off the video and just use the audio, so don't take it personally if people are not all avidly watching: or they might be having their supper and don't want to be seen stuffing their faces...! I might bring my knitting next week, or do my ironing!

Oh, leeneia, don't despair and think people aren't interested in hearing the other singers. The session lasts 5 hours, and that's a very long time to sit in rapt attention with an encouraging look on one's face. I cut my video every now and then while I take a break for a snack or bathroom break or stretch, or just be 'at ease', and I'd rather mute my video and still hear the singer, than have the singer see me scratch myself or fork down some food.   I think you just had the bad luck to be in the spotlight when too many people were taking a break. We love hearing you!!!

And it was a very lovely song you sang and well sung too on Monday!

I do try to stay live on Zoom unless it is absolutely necessary to switch off video because I think this is what you would do in a real folk club if you spent your evening there ....plus you never know what you might miss.

Once upon a time, my voice teacher gave me a tip about stage fright. She said there is bound to be at least one person in the audience who wishes you well and looks friendly. Focus on that person.

Now, the week before last, I was singing and looking for that person, and I realized to my dismay that most of the faces I saw were not people, but photographs. I suppose they were people who didn't want to listen to others, just to sing themselves. So they ambled off to walk the dog or balance their checkbook, leaving their lifeless picture in their place. Pfui.

Last Monday, I am happy to say, there were many more live people in place, and I felt better about singing my song. Keep up the good work, everybody.

But this coming Monday is October 19, and it will be at the usual times.

Sorry for the confusion.
