Subject: BS: Spoonerism From: Peter the Squeezer Date: 20 Jun 20 - 04:44 PM Listening to Classic FM (UK radio) earlier this evening - programme featuring film music. One track was "Epilogue" from Frozen, by Christphe Beck. I'm sure the announcer said it was recorded by "The Frozen Cast Pit Orchestra". |

Subject: RE: BS: Spoonerism From: Doug Chadwick Date: 21 Jun 20 - 06:23 AM The Frozen Cast Pit Orchestra". If this is a Spoonerism, what was the original phrase meant to be? DC |
Subject: RE: BS: Spoonerism From: Doug Chadwick Date: 21 Jun 20 - 07:53 AM last.fm have a reference to 'Frozen Cast Pit Orchestra' so my guess is that that is exactly what the Classic FM intended to say. DC |
Subject: RE: BS: Spoonerism From: Jos Date: 21 Jun 20 - 08:26 AM Perhaps the OP meant to say 'malapropism', thinking there was a misused word, but I also think it is what the announcer meant to say. |
Subject: RE: BS: Spoonerism From: Doug Chadwick Date: 21 Jun 20 - 09:02 AM I have just listened to the relevant section of the programme on catch up and 'Frozen Cast Pit Orchestra' is definitely what the announcer said. Presumably, it was recorded by musicians from the orchestra pit for the stage show, which uses a live cast, rather than those who played for the animation. DC |

Subject: RE: BS: Spoonerism From: Mr Red Date: 22 Jun 20 - 01:23 AM I like a well boiled icicle & raise a glass to the queer old dean Though according to Wiki - Spoonerism most attributed to the Rev Archibald Spooner are probably apocryphal. What I have read says that he was an albino and that spoonerisms are not uncommon with that condition. And the switcheroo was more general like when he was introduced to a person and said "was it you or your brother who was killed in the war?" |
Subject: RE: BS: Spoonerism From: Dave Hanson Date: 22 Jun 20 - 02:13 AM On sending a student down from Oxford Spooner is reported to have told him, ' You have hissed all my mystery lessons, you will leave on the next town drain ' Dave H |

You have hissed all my mystery lectures, and have been caught fighting a liar in the quad. You must leave Oxford by the town drain." * There I was, starring in the band, drooping myself into a stinker. |

Subject: RE: BS: Spoonerism From: Mrrzy Date: 24 Jun 20 - 05:12 PM I can't find anything about albinos and spoonerisms, other than that Spooner was albino [or should that be was *an* albino?]. Mr. Red, where were you finding this? |
Subject: RE: BS: Spoonerism From: Mr Red Date: 25 Jun 20 - 03:56 AM albinoism & spoonerism - BBC Radio many years ago. They said it was not uncommon, not automatic. I seem to have lost the start of my poem but this is what I remember: Bunting and frolics And buckling folicles Friar Tuck .............. (pause for the audience to reach the obvious) Fire Truck Wind all directions Dwindled erections Once, on stage, I was just into the next poem and single laugh came from the audience, I remarked "was that funny?" and the lady's husband said "I just explained Friar Tuck" - the best laugh "I" got that night. |
