Subject: Lyr Add: REFLECTIONS OF MY LIFE (Ford, Campbell)
From: rich-joy
Date: 30 Jun 20 - 12:33 AM

I only found out this last week, that Dean Ford (born Thomas McAleese), the wonderful singer of acclaimed Scottish band “The Marmalade” (and earlier, the Gaylords and others), had passed on at age 72 from Parkinson’s complications - about 18 months ago!! (31Dec2018 or 01Jan2019 – reports vary) ........

I could find no mention on The Cat of either him, the band, or this, arguably their most famous and long-lasting song, written by Dean Ford and guitarist Junior Campbell.
(NB No, I am definitely NOT going to talk about that “Obladi-Oblada”!!!)

This particular song ("Reflections of My Life"), is such an important part of the soundtrack of so many Baby Boomers’ lives – not the least of whom are the many Viet Vets who have a special place in their hearts for this song; so I just felt that it should be recorded here on Mudcat.

This is a 2014 version sung by Dean (with Joe Tansin), alongside clips of the band’s 1969 performance, but shows how his beautiful voice was still there!!

Vale, Dean.

REFLECTIONS of MY LIFE

The changing of sunlight to moonlight
Reflections of my life
Oh, how they fill my eyes

The greetings of people in trouble
Reflections of my life
Oh, how they fill my eyes

All my sorrows
Sad tomorrow
Take me back to my old home

All my crying (All my crying)
Feel I'm dying, dying
Take me back to my old home

I'm changing, arranging
I'm changing
I'm changing everything
Oh, everything around me

The world is a bad place
A bad place
A terrible place to live
Oh, but I don't want to die

All my sorrows
Sad tomorrow
Take me back to my old home

All my crying (All my crying)
Feel I'm dying, dying
Take me back to my old home

Take me back, take me back ……

“”””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””

Cheers,
R-J

Oh how sad but thanks for this. Reflections of My Life was my favourite of my older sister's 45's. Even at 10 year old I was a very maudlin child and this song stayed with me all of my life - a beautiful melody and such sad, sad words.

I am old enough to remember hearing both of the
Marmalade songs, Reflections of my Life as well as Rainbow.
In fact I was watching some television variety show
on which the Marmalade appeared
and performed both songs live.
Goodness, that was a long time ago.
