Hit some button before I finished the title of the first thread so will try another one. What I was trying to ask was if anyone has the words to the song Joe,Don't Let the Music Kill You. Was recorded by Tom T. Hall and first three lines are: Joe don't let the music kill ya It's a thing's supposed to thrill ya It's supposed to make you happy

or something like that. I've tried Tom T's site and the data base. It's one of his more obscure pieces but has a sentiment that musicians might find of interest.

Joe, thanks for the help. I think its a differnt Joe in the song. The music keeps me alive too. And its working on my son and daughter. One is 15 and the other 21 and music is something they share in common. But it ain't my music. I am learning from them though.

Wolfgang - thanks for that note. Got an email from Dale Rose today which also mentioned Billy Joe Shaver. Had not associated the song with him, but it sure works. You got further than I did in your search.

JOE, DON'T LET YOUR MUSIC KILL YOU!
(Tom T. Hall)

Joe, don't let your music kill ya
It's a thing that's supposed to fill ya
It's a thing that's supposed to make ya happy
Taking pills and drinkin' whiskey
Pickin' can be mighty risky
Joe, don't let your music kill ya-Nobody cares.

That song that you've been singin'
It's not what ya think
I know you've seen some sunny days
You love your music
But you love your life
And there's nothin' silent like a grave.

Joe, don't let your music kill ya
It's a thing that's supposed? to fill ya
It's a thing that's supposed to make you happy
Takin' pills and drinkin' whiskey
Pickin' can be mighty risky
Joe, don't let your music kill ya-Nobody cares.

Hunger can be killed with a can of beans
Don't let them tell ya that I'm wrong
You got a good woman
An' she's got her dreams
Don't hang your life up for a song.

Joe, don't let your music kill ya
It's a thing that's supposed to fill ya
It's a thing that's supposed to make ya happy
Takin' pills and drinkin' whiskey
Pickin' can be mighty risky
Son, don't let your music kill ya-Nobody cares.

Joe, don't let your music kill ya
It's a thing that's supposed to fill ya
It's a thing that supposed to make ya happy
Takin' pills and drinkin' whiskey
[FADE]
Pickin' can be mighty risky
Joe, don't let your music kill ya-Nobody cares.
