I usually sing a cappella, but I often ask a guitarist to play chord so we're all singing and playing in the same key. Sometimes, I can't find the melody, especially if people are singing things that aren't quite right.

But gee, if I had introductions like these, I could sing almost everything perfectly. I have to admit that I don't recognize all the introductions immediately, but I do recognize most of them.

Some performers nowadays, especially on recordings or videos, noodle on the instrument(s) for as much as a minute before they start the actual song. It drives me up the wall. I often mutter to myself "Get on with it".

I use the intro from Herman's Hermits cover of Silhouttes as a warm up on guitar and mando. It's a sappy song but the intro is fun to run through various keys. The original sounds like it's done on an electric 12 string.

This song, which was the subject of a recent thread, has particularly beautiful guitar playing, with introductions between the verses. It's almost a duet for guitar and voice.
