In an interview, Mr. Whitehouse said the F.B.I.’s response showed that the F.B.I.’s handling of the accusations into misconduct by Mr. Kavanaugh was a sham. Ms. Tyson’s letter, Mr. Whitehouse said, suggested that the F.B.I. ran a “fake tip line that never got properly reviewed, that was presumably not even conducted in good faith.”

Mr. Whitehouse and six of his Democratic colleagues on the Senate Judiciary Committee replied to the F.B.I.’s letter on Wednesday with demands for additional details on the agreement with the White House that governed the inquiry. They also pressed for more information on how incoming tips were handled.

“Your letter confirms that the F.B.I.’s tip line was a departure from past practice and that the F.B.I. was politically constrained by the Trump White House,” the senators wrote. Among those signing the letter were Senator Dick Durbin of Illinois, the committee’s chairman, Mr. Coons and Senator Cory Booker of New Jersey.

No surprise now that the details of the Kavanaugh hearings are being revealed. FBI says it got more than 4,500 tips on Kavanaugh, providing ‘relevant’ ones to Trump White House
. . . where they were immediately quashed.

The exact number of tips was disclosed in a June 30 letter released by Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse on Thursday. The letter was in response to a two-year-old request from Senate Democrats seeking more information about the handling of the investigation.

The revelation reignited fierce accusations from liberals who say that the FBI and the Trump White House did not sufficiently examine allegations against Kavanaugh in the wake of accusations from Dr. Christine Blasey Ford that he had sexually assaulted her at a party in the Maryland suburbs when they were both in high school.

The allegations nearly derailed his confirmation, and Kavanaugh has always fiercely denied them. Kavanaugh was ultimately confirmed by a vote of 50-48.

Times have brought great changes in technology. Back a generation ago there were fewer information streams and a greater consensus on what constituted truth versus news. Different sources had different values of believability. Mark Twain said: "Truth is the most valuable thing we have. Let us economize it." Now, information is cheap and plentiful. And everyone can contribute. It is sent out in broad spigots. So "the truth is out there" but it is to be found severely diluted.

At one time Christiane Northrup was a well-respected feminist-oriented ob/gyn. I have a couple of her books from 20-30 years ago. Now she's gone into the Dark Side with her LaLaLand nonsense and puts her whole career into question. And Mercola - he's just plain criminally wrong in the stuff he promotes. I don't know WTF is going on with the Kennedy scion.

You can attest to the fact that I was talking like Mark Milley over a year ago. Many years ago I warned of a Civil War but I was four square wrong about people being unwilling to die for Trump. They are doing it by the thousands thanks to the help from Facebook vaccine experts.

There are several really interesting books coming out this month. I just bought a Kindle version of First Friends talking about a number of presidents and their long-term friends. And interestingly enough, they said that Trump doesn't have a best friend. He's the poorer for it.

Comes now a new book including observations from Gen. Milley, who was head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Saying that late in the Trmp term he was appointing buddies to major positions and causing fears among the high staff that he would try something akin to a 'Wag the Dog' strategy. My jaded old movie memory went back to "Seven Days in May".

Trump's reaction was predictable:

“Sorry to inform you, but an Election is my form of ‘coup,’” Trump said, “and if I was going to do a coup, one of the last people I would want to do it with is General Mark Milley.”

Here's a Trump appointee who hoped to burrow in like a tick and keep damaging the Social Security Administration. Biden kicked out the top two guys, but the top one says he isn't leaving.

Following a Supreme Court ruling, Biden fired Trump's top officials at the Social Security Administration. Andrew Saul, however, doesn't intend to leave.

Saul, however, apparently disagrees. In fact, the Trump appointee told the Washington Post late last week that, as far as he's concerned, Biden can't fire him. Saul added that he intends to keep working this morning, as if his ouster hadn't happened.

I don't know enough about the inner workings of the Social Security Administration, but I assume the relevant officials have canceled his login and limited his access to the building. I also assume Saul will soon file some kind of lawsuit testing the legality of the White House's decision.

One hopes so!

I haven't finished the book Melania and Me about the scam of the millions donated for the Trump inauguration, but it is still timely. Millions went walkabout and the Trumps viewed those donated dollars as a family slush fund. Stephanie, former friend of Melania, kept meticulous notes. She has the receipts.
