I'm betting the woman who was Mark Meadows executive assistant is going to be a blockbuster witness today. Its not that important as long as the facts are sharp. I heard a new name for trumper wierdos. Its Hogan Hero fascists. So many of the trump loyalists were absurd to the point of comic villains posing as heros. They have also been called the gang that couldn't shoot straight but we've had too many shootings. DC had 11 this weekend alone.

The January 6 Committee has those two by the short hairs - it seems possible they know they're going to prison if they don't flip.

There is a woman in Colorado named Tina Peters who is running for Colorado Secretary of State to "return Colorado to the 'gold standard'" as far as elections. The same Tina Peters who was indicted March 2021 for election tampering and misconduct.

Here's a bit more. I'm not so interested in this story that I'm willing to read all of these articles closely, but if there was ever a candidate to catch Trump's eye for an endorsement, she is one of them.

Today the January 6 Committee scheduled a hearing for tomorrow to interview and release information they recently obtained. That should be interesting.

And as far as Trump's actions, it seems he's having trouble getting his social media platform off the ground, what with all of the subpoenas being sent to his proposed business partners. Grand Jury Subpoenas Could End Trump’s Plans for Truth Social
The shell company attempting to take Trump's digital media venture public said new subpoenas and a prolonged investigation could delay or kill the deal.
DWAC added that investigators sought out “various documents and information,” including items reflecting DWAC due diligence in relation to Trump Media & Technology Group as well as other companies DWAC potentially targeted. DWAC claims the subpoenas sent to its individual members asked for similar types of documents in addition to requests for information involving DWAC’s S-1 filings and information regarding the firm Rocket One Capital. If the Southern District of New York sounds familiar, that’s probably because the Manhattan district attorney, a former prosecutor in the Southern District, has his own criminal investigation into Trump ongoing.

All told, DWAC said the slew of subpoenas and ever-growing investigation could throw a wrench in its plans and delay or even kill its merger with TMTG.

If that happens, Trump could be forced into the uncomfortable position of shopping around for new SPAC suitors. That wouldn’t have stung so much last year or in 2020 when new SPACs were seemingly popping up around every corner, but changing market trends and threats of regulations have reportedly made the merger technique much less palatable on Wall Street of late.

“Last year was one of the best years in terms of SPACs,” former investment bank analyst Gary Stein told the New York Times earlier this month. “This year is probably one of the more difficult ones for me to navigate.”

The January 6 Committee meetings have been knocked off of the front page by the Supreme Court so it's just as well they've delayed their next hearing for about two weeks. I look forward to the hearings resumption. I think the Supreme Court decision will be a catalyst for a lot of people who were already pissed at Trump to work harder on get-out-the-vote campaigns and such.

DTG:
I had an interesting conversation with an Englishman who was a school teacher on a hike in New Hampshire many years ago. He had been brought up in coal country in Bonnie England and was according to him one of the very few young people from his district to get a post secondary education after which he returned as a school teacher to the land of his youth. He had subsequently moved to the States and become a teacher in New England.

He had a take on English versus American attitudes. He felt the English regarded themselves as more acted upon than acting, as opposed to average Americans, who felt the opposite. He mentioned that it might explain American violence, particularly gun violence, in that the average American feels he/she has personal agency and is more likely to exercise it, whether appropriately or not.

I tended to go along with that as a reasonable theory, but this was long ago, and I have modified my view in the Age of Trmp: I think that Americans have become more responsive over time to appeals to fear and hate. The sense of agency may still be higher among Americans than Europeans and Asians, but cases have been more distorted and perverted.

The committee has eliminated an important meeting between Mike Pense and Dan Quayle, Former Vice President of the United States
James Danforth Quayle an American politician who served as the 44th vice president of the United States from 1989 to 1993 under President George H. M. W. Bush.
Born: February 4, 1947 (age 75 years), Indianapolis, IN

It was Dan Quayle who talked Pense out of doing Trump's illegal take over of the USA in the eleventh hour !!!!

Instead the committee is presenting Pense as a glorious hero whose faith, honor and oath to the Constitution saved the day.

Mike Pense had more than a month to give a public statement that could have avoided almost all of this evil insurgent plan.
I decided to remin silent instead like a coward imo.

He has been fined for a criminal act that was completely insensitive to the thousands who lost loved ones without being able to see then first. He is changing the rules so he can stay in power. And yet he is not only still in place, but still popular with some! I hope you nail Trump soon as what happens in the US usually hits the UK not long after.

And here's another grifter who has thrived in the Tea party and Trump era:

She helped create the Big Lie. Records suggest she turned it into a big grift.
Catherine Engelbrecht founded Texas-based nonprofit True the Vote, which has raised millions in donations with claims that it discovered voter fraud. A media investigation found the organization made questionable transactions.
A review of thousands of pages of documents from state filings, tax returns and court records, however, paints the picture of an organization that enriches Engelbrecht and partner Gregg Phillips rather than actually rooting out any fraud. According to the documents, True the Vote has given questionable loans to Engelbrecht and has a history of awarding contracts to companies run by Engelbrecht and Phillips. Within days of receiving $2.5 million from a donor to stop the certification of the 2020 election, True the Vote distributed much of the money to a company owned by Phillips, Bopp’s law firm and Engelbrecht directly for a campaign that quickly fizzled out.

Trump's free agent acolytes are still out doing their dirty work.

Roger Stone and Michael Flynn under fire over rallies ‘distorting Christianity’

Have you read Sinclair Lewis' It Can't Happen Here? The story tells of Senator Berzelius "Buzz" Windrip who runs for president and who is a tool of the far right behind-the-scenes folks who need a face for their campaign. An overview of the scenario from Wikipedia:
Although having previously foreshadowed some authoritarian measures to reorganize the United States government, Windrip rapidly outlaws dissent, incarcerates political enemies in concentration camps, and trains and arms a paramilitary force called the Minute Men (named after the Revolutionary War militias of the same name), who terrorize citizens and enforce the policies of Windrip and his capitalist regime. One of Windrip's first acts as president is to eliminate the influence of the United States Congress, which draws the ire of many citizens as well as the legislators themselves. The Minute Men respond to protests against Windrip's decisions harshly, attacking demonstrators with bayonets. In addition to these actions, Windrip's administration, known as the Corpo government, curtails women's and minority rights, and eliminates individual states by subdividing the country into administrative sectors. The government of these sectors is managed by Corpo authorities, usually prominent businessmen or Minute Men officers. Those accused of crimes against the government appear before kangaroo courts presided over by military judges. Despite these dictatorial and "quasi-draconian" measures, a majority of Americans approve of them, seeing them as painful but necessary steps to restore U.S. power.

Trump is Windrip. That's all there is to it. The Corpo are Murdoch, Koch (the remaining brother), and a few other uber rich and connected Federalist Society and Libertarian folks. The book was written in 1935 by a prescient author who had his eye on American politics. Eighty-plus years later, along came bumbling Trump and it all was set into motion.

Filk, America First and the American Nazi party ( American Bund ) has its roots in WWII (Stop War) isolationism and has its nazi heros like Charles Linburgh. Make Germany Great Again was the original MAGA phrase and was a Hitler theme but not as a campaign slogan since Hitler simply outlawed other parties. There must have been Roman Senators who promised to make Rome great again too.
Authoritarian rule of course predates democracy. What stands in the way of democracy is that 60% OF BOTH PARTIES BELIEVE that politicians run for office only to enrich themselves. It reminds me of a fantastic board game I created but did not market. It was called "Power and Greed". Like today the main factors were the 5th column called the Daily Leak, Federal Prisons, Outlandish wealthy and the people who had the smallest chance of winning with a populist President. Jeeze that was almost 50 years ago!

Guardian article with information revealed in the January 6 Committee hearing:

The news that multiple House Republicans asked the Trump White House for pardons – an apparent consciousness of guilt – was one of three revelations portending potentially perilous legal and political moments to come for Trump and his allies.

The first public hearing of the January 6 House committee will take place Thursday, 9 June 2022.

At the hearing, the panel’s vice-chair Liz Cheney named only one Republican member of Congress, congressman Scott Perry, the current chair of the ultra conservative House freedom caucus, who sought a presidential pardon for his efforts to overturn the 2020 election results.

The select committee did not elaborate on which other House Republicans were asking for pardons or more significantly, for which crimes they were seeking pardons, but it appeared to show at the minimum that they knew they had been involved in likely illegal conduct.

Persistent it certainly is. I read recently that the same basic crowd has been around since the time of Tricky Dickie at least, and just got harnessed this time round by Agent Orange. Seems in politics (here too now, sadly) that it's not which party can capture the middle ground, but who can harness the extremists.

Would you regret if tomorrow you found out that Donald Trump committed suicide? No chance of that with such a narcicist.

If he found the courage to die somehow out of a fear of torture or imprisonment I would be extremely sorry and unhappy, not out of charity or anything like that but for the same reason I was sorry and unhappy about the demise of Lee Harvey Oswald. File it under the rubric, “Now we’ll never know.”

Mr Trump himself is what he always was, a vulgar con man who found his niche as a bad example, a cruel reality TV showoff, a kind of zoo animal so repulsive you can’t look away. As a New Yorker I’ve watched him out of the corner of my eye since around 1980. It was always a given that he’d continue to act out his bad-boy shtick as president — cartoonists imagined him in that role way back when. (See Gary Trudeau’s oldies, collected in the book “Yuge!”) Once he took office he became a sort of catalyst, triggering changes in American governance without being changed himself.

Now we’re learning how that happened. The underlying theme seems to be Russia, and I for one want to know just how deep the Russian penetration of our government has gone. It seems clear Mr Trump is in thrall to V. Putin and/or his oligarchs, but why? How? Who else is implicated? Why was it so easy to do? Can we stop it from happening again?

Viva Mr Trump! Long may he live! He’s an asset as precious to us as he is to Mr Putin. We’re beginning to understand some of the mysteries behind his rise to power and the Republican embrace of his unsavory self. It would be tragic to lose the key to such mysteries just when we’re on the brink of unlocking them.

The filmmaker who was following the Proud Boys and got footage on the day of the assault on the Capitol answered questions about his presence that he was at the hearing "under subpoena." The officer who testified didn't need to be compelled. Despite having his hand forced, the filmmaker will get some good publicity out of all of this.

How to deal with right wing radio, tv and internet:
There is a way to break their bubble. The conspiracy cults become more adament as they begin to lose. Each failure makes it a bit harder so they find another tent pole to prop up their lies. Leaving a bunch of broken tent poles unguarded will tempt them to steal goods designed to break.
That will leave them with their last gasp conspiracy of victimhood in which they did it to themselves. Most people do not want to be the victim as support melts away.
