If only there was a legal legal remedy to send Trump home, his original home, Flushing, a neighborhood in the north-central portion of the New York City borough of Queens. The neighborhood is the fourth-largest central business district in New York City. Downtown Flushing, a major commercial and retail area centered around the intersection of Main Street and Roosevelt Avenue, is the third-busiest intersection in New York City, behind Times Square and Herald Square.

Flushing was established as a settlement of New Netherland on October 10, 1645, on the eastern bank of Flushing Creek. In 1898, Flushing was consolidated into the City of New York. Development came in the early 20th century with the construction of bridges and public transportation. An immigrant population, composed mostly of Chinese and Koreans, settled in Flushing in the late 20th century.

Flushing contains numerous residential subsections, and its diversity is reflected by the numerous ethnic groups that Trump grew to hate.

As time passes the GOP seem to hope the events of Jan. 6, if not the full past four years, fade from memory. They can just forget about it. Trump needs to face the criminal justice system, not just the House and Senate in this second impeachment.

Republicans are pursuing new voter restriction laws as a result of Trump's loss. To absentee vote they want people to submit special Voter ID to get a ballot IN PERSON and then a second time when they mail it.

Isn't that like being required to attend Zoom meetings in person?

In a way, Obama was a case of three steps forward, Trump was a case of two and a half steps back, but he was so out of balance he led to a rapid three steps forward again. Just not for Republicans. They are deeply divided and many of their course directions such as voter limitation and qualifications are likely to lead to severe pushbacks.

Steve mentioned that on a different thread, Don. Several flippant responses have been deleted. (It is a "thing," Steve had it. Look it up.)

From CNN today:

Nine days after newly sworn-in President Joe Biden told America that "every disagreement doesn't have to be a cause for total war," recriminations between the parties and the Republican meltdown are consuming Congress.

It's now clear that the January 6 mob attack on Capitol Hill, while failing in its bid to reverse Trump's election loss, has utterly fractured the basic level of trust needed to make a political system function — at a critical national moment.

In the quarter century of bitter political battles since former speaker Newt Gingrich's Republican revolution, Washington has never been this inflamed.

At times on Thursday, it appeared that the whole of Congress was fixated on its own civil wars, cut off from behind its high iron fence from the reality of America's darkest modern winter.

I was listening to a discussion yesterday about the way the GOP has, over the years, accepted more conservative racist elements that have completely altered the face of the party that was once simply fiscally conservative. When Johnson (who himself was a racist) went with the Civil Rights movement, many Southern Democrats bailed on the party and joined the GOP; when Reagan ran and invited in the "Moral Majority" group, they made a huge impact on the direction of the party. And then there was the Tea Party gang that hopped on, and now that Trump has emptied the Q loony bin into the GOP the party is a Juggernaut that is aiming at completely altering the face of America.

Of course I agree with the mistrust issues! I gathered that Steve was starting to repeat the fact that republican Senator jurors would not vote against their king.

To regain that trust could take extraordinary admissions even including that the US knows more about ufo's than the misinformation we have gotten for decades. The average person doesn't know much about reconcilliation rules but they are 'experts' on ufos.
After all, we're dealing with average Joes.

To be honest, Stilly seems like the only one here who understands that US Founding fathers and Constituton writers recognized that 'reason' had to have an equal chance to counter/balance 'passion' for the nation to endure. Now we are dealing with an overflowing river of misinformation and mistrust from Facebook tributaries. Wall St. helped flood the nation with the 2008 home foreclosure crises. Mistrust is a natural outcome. Misinformation from the KKK segment of society enticed moderate whites who felt victimized. They are NOT the majority except in guns. With a President who parrots people's suspicions, the misinformation has hardened. We even have our own Joe O who puruses neo nazi history revisionist websites and posts their viewpoint as in the This land thread. Since he is still in a denial mode there is still hope for reason to return, his pm's not withstanding. Growing up I read The Minority of One. Today I feel like I am one.
Trump in this light is a symptom and not a cause but believe me he has caused alot along with his advisor Steve Bannon.

Yes I can prove I have warned of a risk of civil war insurrection for several decades and now I find others may take this too lightly. That is my worry and insecurity and not an accusation. Perhaps I am not a minority of one. BUT IT IS THE BEST OF TIMES AND THE WORST OF TIMES.

So last night we raised a glass to all the Holocaust dead and all those who have fought for justice over the last seven decades since. Tears shed this end. No need to go large on Mudcat if you don't mind. The fact that we didn't reflects absolutely nothing. And do be advised that you have misused the word Holocaust in your post, thereby diminishing the word's true impact. What you think the US is suffering now is by no means equivalent. Donald Trump - 'The perfect target’: Russia cultivated Trump as asset for 40 years – ex-KGB spy

The KGB ‘played the game as if they were immensely impressed by his personality’, Yuri Shvets, a key source for a new book, tells the Guardian

Donald Trump was cultivated as a Russian asset over 40 years and proved so willing to parrot anti-western propaganda that there were celebrations in Moscow, a former KGB spy has told the Guardian.

Yuri Shvets, posted to Washington by the Soviet Union in the 1980s, compares the former US president to “the Cambridge five”, the British spy ring that passed secrets to Moscow during the second world war and early cold war.

Now 67, Shvets is a key source for American Kompromat, a new book by journalist Craig Unger, whose previous works include House of Trump, House of Putin. The book also explores the former president’s relationship with the disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein.

“This is an example where people were recruited when they were just students and then they rose to important positions; something like that was happening with Trump,” Shvets said by phone on Monday from his home in Virginia.

OPTIONAL RANT: I hope Trump will found and fund his new Patriot Party (PeePee). Sane Republicans need a country club of their own abd Rethugricans can splinter off and join Trump with glee and shower him in PeePee autocracy. In no time America will decide which party is truly a fringe party.

We need at least two viable functioning parties in our political system, and if the flakes and zealots would peel off of the GOP and join Trump, the GOP has to resolve to never let the crackpots back into the tent. They've invited various groups - racists, moral majority, tea partiers, to their own detriment. A conservative party is fine; a party of crackpots is not.

A one-party political system is no longer a Democracy and is to be avoided at all costs.

What is happening is they are still doing game show takeoffs which while a reliable way to mount a satire that is humorous and insightfully barbed, it can result in a sameness that has grown old over many many years.

Also, the recent incarnation of writers have a leader or core group that thinks that disgustingness or grossness is funny. I'm tired of it. Your mileage may vary.

The social bubble where everyone got arrested for reactionary activity was sort of fun, but ultimately not that barbed. Somewhat better was towards the end, the look at the 'new Georgia'. which has suddenly gone woke and blue-state.

Their musical guests have the characteristics of Wagner. Some inspired choices, mostly just uninspired or what's been up for the grammies or worse.

The high point is typically the news section.

Trmp gave them an almost endless supply of outrageousness that almost could be written straight into scripts. The closest they came to this was in the cold open when Kate MacKinnon interviewed "Marjorie Taylor Greene" who basically just recited her own tweets.

Donuel, just to keep the record straight, the Orange One (now the Faded One) did indeed reach and pass a 45% approval rating. He hit 49% four or five times. However, he never reached 50%.

A segue here- a thought that's bothered me for some time: All revolutions are traitorous, unless the rebels win. Right?

Off The Rails

Bonus episode: Inside the craziest meeting of the Trump presidency

This is a long read and is frankly the most astonishing thing I've read about as far as the people inside Trump's White House.

For example

The meeting had come entirely off the rails.

Byrne, backing up Flynn, told Trump the White House lawyers didn't care about him and were being obstructive. "Sir, we're both entrepreneurs, and we both built businesses," the former Overstock CEO told Trump. "We know that there are times you have to be creative and take different steps."

This was a remarkable level of personal familiarity, given it was the first time Byrne had met the president. All the stanchions and buffers between the White House and the outside world had crumbled.

Byrne kept attacking the senior White House staff in front of Trump. "They've already abandoned you," he told the president aggressively. Periodically during the meeting Flynn or Byrne challenged Trump's top staff — portraying them as disloyal: So do you think the president won or not?

At one point, with Flynn shouting, Byrne raised his hand to talk. He stood up and turned around to face Herschmann. "You're a quitter," he said. "You've been interfering with everything. You've been cutting us off."

"Do you even know who the fuck I am, you idiot?" Herschmann snapped back.

"Yeah, you're Patrick Cipollone," Byrne said.

"Wrong! Wrong, you idiot!"

The staff were now on their feet, standing behind one of the couches and facing the Powell crew at the Resolute Desk. Cipollone stood to Herschmann's left. Lyons, on his last day on the job, stood to Herschmann's right.

In the summer before the inauguration of Abraham Lincoln, Washington DC was known as the city of a thousand Stinks! Cows grazed on the White House pasture and chamber pots spilled into the streets. Dirt roads like Constitution Ave. churned the smelly rainy runoff into an applesauce of mud. The Washington canal poured an open fetid raw sewerage to 'aromatize' the entire pioneer city with an equality of stench. The mood of the country was turning muddier in November when Lincoln lost the popular vote but squeaked out a win by the electoral college. Lincoln won only by a plurality in 1861 because there were 3 candidates. The fights in the Senate Chamber preceded 1861 by a number of months. The largest Slave trading auctions in the nation took place until 1850 on what we now call the Mall. Even the statue atop the capitol was made by slaves.

Like today, back in 1861 troops were quartered in the US Capitol. Things in Washington still stink in regards to racism, institutional slavery and election results. In 1861 Fights took place on the Senate floor when a South Carolina Senator beat a fellow Senator after an anti slavery speech. A new President Lincoln faced long odds and an eventual stink of hundreds of thousands of rotting corpses in battle fields across the nation. The call of the south shall rise has never gone silent. Some of the modern attackers of the capitol last month had great grandfathers registered in the Confederate Army

In the first Civil War, the South was desperately lacking the manufacturing capabilities which spelled eventual defeat. They even had to smuggle printing plates to print money that were made in New Jersey. The lead for bullets and weapons came from England but that soon came to an end with a Blockade by the Union Navy. But today The South has oil and manufacturing factories like Mercedes and Toyota not to mention Cape Canaveral and Houston. Its no wonder a serious coup to take over America had a chance in the minds of neo-confederate sympathizers. But it was done by the gang who couldn't shoot straight – and worse than that, their 'Jefferson Davis' was a NY Yankee.

Just like the middle east Isis, the American Isis will be using Toyota and Chevy pick up trucks in their war for freedom. The Proud Boys will drive Mercedes like the Saudis.

Chronicaling true events is crucial to have a consensus of understanding. Opinion might be next. Parody is further down the line of importance but it amuses me. Science fiction was my first interest.
Vast general knowledge is much less marketable than focused expertise. Jack of all trades-master of none.

Truthfully I am not well read. I have had to memorize in an audible fashion and other tricks to circumvent the effects of dyslexia and migraine since birth. At 58 the migraines vanished. Woo HOO
Scientists suggest left angular gyrus irregularities but with such strong effects on the eyes I believe migraines have an occipital connection with hormone disruption.

Some of us have noticed that Donald Trump has damaged emotions. It is a complex issue that I would think first requires knowing where that damage effects a person in their brain.

1. Happiness activates several areas of the brain, including the right frontal cortex, the precuneus, the left amygdala, and the left insula. This activity involves connections between awareness (frontal cortex and insula) and the “feeling center” (amygdala) of the brain.

2. Fear activates the bilateral amygdala, the hypothalamus and areas of the left frontal cortex. This involves some thinking (frontal cortex), a “gut” feeling (amygdala), and a sense of urgency typically associated with survival (the hypothalamus.)

3. Sadness is associated with increased activity of the right occipital lobe, the left insula, the left thalamus the amygdala and the hippocampus. The hippocampus is strongly linked with memory, and it makes sense that awareness of certain memories is associated with feeling sad.

Sadness has been studied more than the other emotions because depression may last for a long time; the effects of antidepressants can be measured based on improved symptoms.

4. Disgust is an interesting feeling that is often associated with avoidance. This emotion that is associated with activation and connections between the left amygdala, the left inferior frontal cortex, and the insular cortex.

5. Anger is an important emotion that many people, adults and children alike, try to control. Anger is associated with activation of the right hippocampus, the amygdala, both sides of the prefrontal cortex and the insular cortex.

6. Surprise is an emotion that can either make you feel good or it can make you feel bad. Surprise activates the bilateral inferior frontal gyrus and the bilateral hippocampus. The hippocampus is strongly associated with memory, and the element of surprise is, by nature, associated with experiencing something that you do not remember or do not expect.

Localized disease in the brain can cause cross over cascading events to other areas of emotion.

An IQ of 80 does not make me a genius, nor have I ever claimed such misinformation as yours pfr. Lets stick to ideas and not fear or anger if you can.

I will never disclose a private message. Its a matter of respect.

As for the sociopaths in society they often hold high positions and seldom obey rules.

"I will never disclose a private message. Its a matter of respect."

Neither have I, or ever would..

Did I copy and paste your PM here..???

No, that would have been a breach of confidence..

But when a pattern begins to emerge of an individual abusing the PM system
to conduct secretive grudge agendas..

Then it is fair to refer to such snidey PMs in public forum..

I've made it clear many times before that I do not to use PMs,
unless I reply politely to any worth responding to..
I always prefer open transparent communications here in mudcat threads..

So, it is you who needs to treat the PM system with proper due respect...!!!

More and more similarities between you and trump are becoming revealed...

so full of sturm and drang signifying nothing

Meanwhile back at his resort ..... contorts the truth

I'd rather be
a deputy
of Biden than a prisoner
of the trump
Joe lets us in
Knows where we've been
In his empathy and truth
From DC
I'd ask my friends
To come and see
A Senate passing good laws
With me
I'd like to be
happy and free
With a Biden's White House
In the shade
We would be warm
Below the storm
In our little happy home
where we live
Singing out loud
and feeling so proud
In a democratic land
Near the sea
We would sing
And could bring
Equality
to share the joy of life
I'd like to be
a deputy
of Biden than a prisoner
of trump's autocracy
We would shout
And swim about
the the lakes and clean shores
Of our seas

Can we get back to the topic of the thread please? Any personal comments about behaviour should be about the Trump, surely, and not about people posting here.

Looking on the bright side, Trump's current actions and effects have far less influence now than they did a couple of weeks ago, although I wouldn't put his influence out to pasture just yet because he is still plotting and planning in his dark, dank robber's cave. On the other hand, Trump's past actions are still reverberating, not least of which is the criminal (IMO) failure to protect the American people from harm, especially from COVID but also from insurrection.

The impeachment trial probably won't appear to achieve the desired outcome, but the fact that it is going ahead on 8 Feb is an outcome in itself. I'm looking forward to seeing the civil actions against him after that is over.

Off topic posts thinned out - please do stop the personal attacks and stick to the subject. ---mudelf

1.3 Billion dollar lawsuits speak louder than lies.
News Max channel has supported the the election conspiracy lie by Trump for years but now they have changed their reporting. A bit too late imo

The plaintiff, Dominion Voting machines, claims damages including death threats, financial loss and could sue Trump directly and not just Rudy and lieing 'news' channels. Sorry you don't like color Helen or seeing other people's true colors. Good on you. The sun is back.
