Subject: nostalgia: CREEM magazine (Detroit) From: keberoxu Date: 05 Aug 20 - 10:31 AM The documentary has actually been around for a year or so, by some accounts -- if I read right, its world premiere was the annual festival in Austin, Texas, in 2019. Then Rolling Stone reported its expected release earlier this summer. Now there are reports on the documentary everywhere -- yesterday in the New York Times, for example. I grew up within a hundred miles of Detroit, and I recall reading some of the Creem issues cover to cover. Max? Did you grow up with this as well?? |

Subject: RE: nostalgia: CREEM magazine (Detroit) From: Joe Offer Date: 05 Aug 20 - 01:16 PM Thanks for letting us know about this, Keberoxu. I was born in Detroit, but moved to Wisconsin in 1958 when I was nine years old. We kept going back to Detroit to visit every summer until I finished high school, but I never encountered Creem Magazine. I imagine all my cousins read it. My cousins did introduce me to Motown music during high school. Never did get a chance to visit the "Hitsville U.S.A." Motown headquarters on West Grand Boulevard, located in two classic Detroit houses. I take it that Creem didn't provide much coverage of Motown music. |
