How do you plan to observe
the long-weekend Labor Day holiday,
the first weekend in September,
with a coronavirus pandemic going on?

I hope to watch some television indoors.
(it will take planning --
my clinic in-patient room has no television)

In the US the Fox Valley Folk Festival will be going on virtually. There's an introductory concert Friday night by Sparky and Rhonda Rucker that can be accessed through the Chicago area's Two Way Street Coffeehouse website (www.twowaystreet.org) Saturday, Sunday and Monday there will be streamed and live virtual concerts and workshops. Himself came home from the market on Saturday with about six litres of Roma tomatoes, so we shall spend at least half of Labour Day on making tomato sauce. I will fold and stow the laundry I washed yesterday. The rest of the day will be spent reading, working and procrastinating.

Went to a lake, ate fried chicken and a hot dog, got a nice sunburn.

Had this been a normal year I would have been breaking camp and driving home, falling exhaustedly into bed and putting off getting my camping stuff dealt with.

Hmmm. This was a better Labor *Day* but I am still sorry my camping naked hippie weekend didn't happen.

I am driving to Ottawa to see my relations and finalize plans for the interment of my husband's ashes. I'll be there for a week, probably needing the whole time to regain my strength for the return trip to Stratford.

Labour Day itself will be spent on Highway 401. It will not be fun.

As it happens, my acquaintance and I are in residential treatment together.
The Labor Day evening event will be the evening when
all of us 'residents' get together for a going-away celebration
for my acquaintance, who will shortly be discharged.
The reservation has already been put in to the institutional kitchen
and the kitchen staff will provide the crème brulée for the occasion.

Observing the holiday in residential psychiatric treatment,
means steering well clear of one fellow patient
who is a little child throwing tantrums in an adult body.
The male of the species.

He has already damaged two punching bags in the patient gym room.
Mind you,
these are the punching bags mounted on a pedestal
that rocks around a bit on the floor.

After all, they know better here than to use
punching bags that hang from above.
Far too tempting, to any suicidal patients,
to get rid of the punching bag
and to hang themselves instead.

Next year I must endeavor to spend the holiday in happier company.

Sitting on the porch cataloging our CDs. About half done, then come the LPs, the cassettes, and reel to reel tapes. As far as I know there aren't any wax cylinders, 78s, 16 2/3s, wire recordings, or beta tapes.

There is a small group of friends who gather at my house several times a year for lunch and a long visit. We're discussing a lunch one day over the Labor Day weekend. They're all very careful (lots of pre-existing conditions in this senior group). That said, what I'm not doing is flying to my hometown for my high school graduation 50-year reunion. All of that time on a plane just seems reckless. I haven't been to any of the other reunions so this is more of the same.

I'm planning to be particularly careful this year.
The coronavirus pandemic is far from over, and
the current variants are highly infectious.
Sadly, the current relaxation of protocols and
the resumption of formerly-normal social activities
means that more risks than ever are being run
by people during national holidays like this one.

The current relaxation of protocols means that it will be harder to get people's attention if they have to make a serious effort to head off another dangerous variant.

We have a menu in mind and are now deciding which day of that weekend to do lunch here. This gives me a couple of weeks to clean and pick up; hopefully I'll actually follow those good intentions and not wait till the last minute. :-)

I will be going to Galley Bay resort
in Antiga for 7 days and leaving all the windows here open to air out the house after a stinky microwave fire. I live next to Kavanaugh on the corner of Brewski Blvd and Blitz Street in Bethesda high above the Potomac and he said he'll tell his security to keep an eye out regarding my walk in safe in the basement.

I expect two family visits in September: Elder Bro & wife on the Labour Day weekend, and No. 2 SIL two weeks later. I have a 50th-anniversary high school reunion, too, but I can get there by car, with some effort. There’s something about the approach of autumn that makes me want to get out of Dodge for a wee while.

It is on so far this year, but I will miss it, first time since I started going in '06, because of my back.

No, but I'm working on it. Lunch here with friends tomorrow so I'm finishing getting ingredients (most are here but I can't buy avocados till near the date and want fresh tortillas purchased the day before, so those are on my short shopping list).

After torrential rains a week ago (I measured in a standing empty trash can - it was close to 14 inches!) the dead grass has sprung to life and needs to be mowed. I'm pretty sure that isn't going to happen in time for tomorrow's event.

A trip to the gym, and a trip to the discount outlet for one of the nicer department stores in the region (it's almost a national chain, though I'm not sure that they're on the west coast). Since my birthday is coming up a treat of a couple of cotton tops, actually new, but not full-price is the objective of this trip. So, shopping on Labor Day. No mattress purchases planned (always one of the big sales items, along with White Sales—towels and bedding—here on the summer holidays of Memorial and Labor Days).
