A Filipino troop did a demonstration of the Tinikling dance and invited some of us to give it a shot. They went easy on us since we all got our ankles banged the first few times. When we got home, we taught it to our Canadian troop. |

Subject: RE: Tinikling, Filipino dance From: keberoxu Date: 15 Sep 20 - 10:23 PM There is a standard "Tinikling" waltz-style dance tune. In this simple video, it is played on classical guitar. |
Subject: Filipino dance with bamboo sticks From: keberoxu Date: 15 Sep 20 - 10:14 PM What? WHAT??? No "Tinikling" thread at the Mudcat?! Something must be done about that! No, you don't have to be Filipino to have been introduced to this dance. In my white-bread Protestant-majority hometown, the local grade school's Physical Education teacher would teach us the simplest version of this dance on the indoor basketball court. Here are some dancers in the San Francisco Bay area. |
