I suggested to one of my (Darlington) Mummers team colleagues perhaps this era would be a good time to knock it on the head. As other sides we struggled to get enough out to relatively few bookings and years of asking has brought no new members.

This is reminiscent of the story of Adderbury Morris post WW1. The dancers that came back from the war were interviewed by revivalists in the 60's and asked why they didn't continue and recruit younger dancers.

The answer came back somewhat like "it wasn't on their agenda, there were more important things needed addressing"

Maybe in 40 years, there will be a few young revivalists. With the wealth of recordings it will be so much easier. All it takes is the will.

Me too.

Aye, indeed, Joy. At least it was not you that the virus finished off! :-)

Sad they've folded.   Some very good times indeed.   All the best to Helen and Richard and all the other members!

Joy

This thread could use a more general title and record the disbanding of many groups, I fear. And the disappearance of many small businesses.

The Morris side I occasionally make concertina noises for, Cononley Morris, is having to disband due to changes in circumstance brought about by the virus pandemic. I'm sure it will be just one of many things lost and of little significance but it is sad all the same.
