If you were (are) required to work at home because of Covid 19, and your employer does not reimburse you additional expenses incurred, you can claim, through a Government Gateway account, expenses of £6 per week against your income, without any requirement to provide backup, which will be given for the rest of the tax year 2020/2021.

Don't waste it!!

By the way, you can only claim this allowance if your employer requires you to work at home. The rates are £4 per week prior to 05/04/20 and £6 per week thereafter.

No, we only donate to certain cancer charities.

What I do suggest is that a proportion of the penalties which will be levied on businesses having made fraudulent Furlough claims, or have made errors in claims, is passed on to the charities commission for distribution.

Were I not now a gentleman of leisure, working from home would have saved me £6 a day in transport costs.

A friend visited on Saturday who works in a car showroom. He tells me they have taken three times as much so far this year than they did last year, even though there is still a quarter to go. It is hard to explain why but he suggested part of it is could be the amount people are saving by working at home rather than commuting into London.

.. or they are impulse buying things they always wanted but could never justify,
because who know how many more weeks any of us have left before trumpist covidiots kill us...

IE.. Sod the credit card, I just bought a new expensive Fuzz Box
I always fancied adding to my pedal board...

The effects box that really interests me is the Electroharmonix Riddle Qballs, which has a very interesting circuit!!

or they are impulse buying things they always wanted but could never justify,

justifying to themselves with the savings in commute costs. Or is it panic buying?

I hate to raise the 'B' word, but it is also possible people who were thinking of changing their car in the next year or two have decided to head of any post-January price rises.

...buying things they always wanted but could never justify...

until they're stuck at home all day, and might actually use them.

shopping is often referred to as retail therapy

and that didn't come out of nowhere. impulse buying is a close cousin.

The commute to work and the social banter of a workplace is not insignificant in social well-being.

"the social banter of a workplace is not insignificant in social well-being"

I agree, there are only 5 of us but I did miss the social banter while working at home from end March to beginning of August. It was great however to have a just a 30 second walk from breakfast chair to my PC.

Now, I move my car, put my wife's car in it's place to keep the space on the road, then 15 minutes drive and a further 10 minutes to find a parking space, then up to 10 minutes to walk to the office. If I'm first in, then I carry out sanitising duties!

Notification of change in code number received yesterday, which included working at home expenses of £312.
