I have the recording of Hedy West singing Rake And A Ramblin' Boy and can decipher most of the lyrics, but I'm stuck in a few places. Google has given me some very different versions (Ramblin' Jack, Joan Baez...) but I can't seem to find these.

Why don't you post what you've got so far, then we can try to fill out the blanks.

Good idea Reinhard. In fact, I was just transcribing them so I could do that.

I'm a rake and a rambling boy
There's many a city I've rambled through
There's many a city I've bummed my way
And I've spent my money and ___________ play

In Greenville city I married me a wife
And I loved her better than I did my life
I dressed her up so neat and gay
Till she caused me to rob on the old highway

In Charleston city I bought me a ticket
And on the train I did sit down
_____________and the train did go
In about five days I landed home

I landed home and began to die
There's many a girl for me will cry
All those tears they've shed for me
Won't save me from these gallows tree

Oh Love oh Love come and keep these lines
They may be the last you'll read of mine
And when I'm dead come and sing for joy
Sing for the last of the ramblin' boy

And I've spent my money at the balls and play

The whistle did blow and the train did go

And in the first line I hear "There's many *of* a city"
