Subject: songs that make you smile (guilty pleasure) From: keberoxu Date: 21 Oct 20 - 12:31 PM I'm talking about songs that are silly or vulgar or embarrassing somehow but you can't help the smile that creeps over your face when you hear them. Pete Seeger singing way down south on yankety-yank If You Want to Be Happy -- get an ugly girl to marry you Beach Boys -- Little Old Lady from Pasadena (love that harmonica) Baha Men -- Who Let The Dogs Out? hey, man, it's part of the party I Got Bills I Gotta Pay (don't remember the artist) |

Subject: RE: songs that make you smile (guilty pleasure) From: punkfolkrocker Date: 21 Oct 20 - 02:55 PM I don't do 'guilty pleasures', or 'so bad it's good'.. Either a song evokes a positive response from me on it's, and my, own terms; or it don't.. Mostly I'm just indifferent to a lot of what I hear.. Having said all that, I have a particular fondness for stupid novelty pop songs... The creators of them must to be really intelligent and creative to produce such gleefully idiotic records... |

Subject: RE: songs that make you smile (guilty pleasure) From: FreddyHeadey Date: 29 Oct 20 - 05:48 PM I always feel a bit bad to have a smile on my face when I sing Jake Thackray's 'On Again' :( Then, if there's nobody listening, I sing it another couple of times. I love a good bum on a woman, it makes my day. To me it is palpable proof of God's existence, a posteriori. Also I love breasts and arms and ankles, elbows, knees; It's the tongue, the tongue, the tongue on a woman that spoils the job for me. Please understand I respect and admire the frailer sex And I honour them every bit as much as the next misogynist. But give some women the ghost of a chance to talk and thereupon They go on again, on again, on again, on again, on again, on again, on. ,,,, https://www.jakethackray.com/archive/songs/the-lyrics-and-guitar-tabs/item/on-again-on-again.html He was, as far as I heard, happily married (or more to the point his wife was happily married) and a good God-fearing Catholic. |

Subject: RE: songs that make you smile (guilty pleasure) From: Helen Date: 30 Oct 20 - 08:04 PM The Pogues - Maidrin Rua makes me smile because they are obviously just sitting around noodling between takes in the recording studio and then Shane MacGowan starts calling them back to work and the music gradually comes to a halt.
