Archive version is now alive!
Richie's site is still to awaken!

He / and the site / are sorely missed. The archive link above doesn't work either...

Always a tricky one, Richard. Mustrad has just been umbrellaed by Reinhard's Mainly Norfolk. John Earl has donated his great sheet music collection to EFDSS; but still far too much goes astray when a collector or researcher shuffles off. At least with orgs like TSF we can keep an eye out for each other. If something happens to me prematurely I know that SteveR or Ruairidh will preserve what needs saving. When Malcolm left us there were several of us who saw that all of his records went to appropriate places to be preserved. When Nigel Hudleston went his heiress was extremely anxious that all of his stuff went to appropriate places, even though she knew nothing of his work. I got a lot of important stuff but he had already given all his recordings to Sheffield Uni where they now reside.

Important websites do get archived by the BL consortium, but according to what it says above they are not always easy to access. I know our Yorkshire Garland site has been archived and we are struggling to keep the funding going to keep it maintained. We probably have enough left in the coffers for another couple of years and plans to raise a little at a time to cover it.

Thanks Steve, that is greatly reassuring.

But it does remind us how much is out there that depends on one or another individual to maintain it (not least Mudcat itself). What can we do about succession planning?

Been in touch with Richie and he's fine, been locked down because of Covid, and he's busy with other things. I'm sure he'll sort the website soon.

I have been using the archive version of Bluegrass Messengers (see link above) and it is a little slow when tabbing to different pages.
The archive has captured the July 2020 copy, and sometimes when tabbing to different pages it reverts to previous years copies, such as 2016 or 2012, that are missing current version info. Once I gave up.
But it is working well for me currently and it is staying with the July 2020 copy.

I hope this current situation will be resolved soon.
Richie's site is an invaluable resource.
It would be worth having a major institute host this site.

Here's a link to the Website at archive.org:

Richie last posted at Mudcat in March, 2019. I hope he's OK.

By the way, Richie edited several very nice songbooks, and they were published by Mel Bay. (click)

Or the domain has expired and been taken hostage by some holding company.

Internet Information Services - IIS - is a webserver. That looks like a holding page that you get when a webserver has been installed but not configured yet.

It may be just that the site's in process of moving to new hardware and they haven't reloaded the content yet.

Hi Richard. I don't know what's happened, but if you go to one of the detail pages you get a Resource Not Found message.

Richie's blog doesn't seem to have been updated since 2012! And his facebook page has nothing from him recently.

On the positive side there's no post to indicate a problem.

Mick
