Subject: RE: Radio 4' My Albion' Worth a listen From: GUEST,matt milton Date: 18 Nov 20 - 09:38 AM It was a good programme, although I must admit I think I'd have found it more interesting if the whole thing had been presented by Cohen B-K. It was the first time I've heard him speaking about being mixed race. He's the only black professional traditional folk performer I'm aware of in England. The aspects of the programme that were meaningful and engaging for me were those personal testimonies from him and the presenter. The parts about 'Albion', which used words like 'spiritual' a lot, were much less substantial in my opinion. But I'll be listening to the rest of the series |

I've just suggested to Cohen that he use that excellent voice and knowledge to present. I was a BBC broadcaster for 34 years, however the opportunities are not there any more, so maybe Podcasts, and other on line stuff is the way to go. I've lost the plot a bit nowadays. |

A splendid dedicated mix for non-folkie diners and real folkies. Nearly the entire roomful queued up afterwards for CDs. Biggest such queue I've seen. An unforgettable reception. |

Nick, if you ever wanted to re-find that plot, you might find dipping your toe into podcasting is more easy than you think. Did you hear the episode of 'The Old Songs' podcast in which Cohen discusses the Banks of Green Willow? He mentions you in it Nick. The Old Songs Cohen Braithwaite-Kilcoyne We're living in a bit of golden age of folk podcasting right now, some really good listening out there. I particularly enjoyed Chris Wood discussing living in Kent, who 'the folk' are, and why he sings. Folk on Foot Chris Wood episode |
Subject: RE: Radio 4' My Albion' Worth a listen From: GUEST,Nick Dow Date: 18 Nov 20 - 01:23 PM Thanks Matt. The truth is I should of course make the effort, and I will listen to your links, and thank you. I've retired hurt from the BBC. When the employment laws changed I called it a day. I'm afraid I'm a bit of a world weary septuagenarian (nearly), and BBC mandatory irrelevant and useless training sessions, and non broadcasting twerps in high office are more than I can stand. That said I will investigate some podcasts with an open mind. Is there a list for referral? |
