Subject: Dylan's œuvre sold From: Mrrzy Date: 07 Dec 20 - 03:43 PM Close this thread if it's a dupe but I did not find anything on the sale to Universal of all his works for $300,000,000? I am interested in opinions. |
Subject: RE: Dylan's œuvre sold From: GUEST,johnmc Date: 07 Dec 20 - 04:19 PM Certainly on the radio news in UK. |
Subject: RE: Dylan's œuvre sold From: meself Date: 07 Dec 20 - 04:37 PM Opinions? Such as - "I wouldn't pay 10 cents"; "I would pay twice that"; "Funny old world, isn't it?"; "Who cares?"; "Dylan's overrated"; "Dylan's the greatest"; "Dylan ripped off somebody's tune"; "Dylan is a saint" ... ? |
Subject: RE: Dylan's œuvre sold From: GUEST,keberoxu Date: 07 Dec 20 - 04:43 PM I saw this, too: wonder if it's a sign that he's getting old when he wants someone else to take on the challenges of management and all. |
Subject: RE: Dylan's œuvre sold From: Stilly River Sage Date: 07 Dec 20 - 06:13 PM I heard it this morning - and there have been a lot of recent purchases of artists' catalogs. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/12/07/arts/music/bob-dylan-universal-music.html |
Subject: RE: Dylan's œuvre sold From: Mrrzy Date: 07 Dec 20 - 06:54 PM Yes, meself, all those and many more. |
Subject: RE: Dylan's œuvre sold From: meself Date: 07 Dec 20 - 08:35 PM Sorry - that's the sum total of my opinions on the matter ... ! |
Subject: RE: Dylan's œuvre sold From: Steve Shaw Date: 07 Dec 20 - 08:52 PM I wouldn't give you 50p for the whole lot of the nasally-challenged charlatan's output. |
Subject: RE: Dylan's œuvre sold From: robomatic Date: 07 Dec 20 - 10:22 PM I love the thread title use of the word "oeuvre" with even that particular font character 'œ'! I'm trying to imagine early Dylan using it in a song.....'oooooooooovvvvvreh!' fitted in to the clanging strings of "Like a Rolling Stone!" "once upon a time you danced so fine I came in on the Highland line barely could find the time to maneuver............. I shot a glance at the fancy pants Trying to dance and work it into my.....oooooooovrrreeeeeeeee!" |
Subject: RE: Dylan's œuvre sold From: punkfolkrocker Date: 07 Dec 20 - 11:30 PM oh.. not a misspelling for Bob selling his old vacuum cleaner on ebay... |
Subject: RE: Dylan's œuvre sold From: Mrrzy Date: 08 Dec 20 - 09:14 AM That is so how it would be pronounced. His lyrics are amazing. I think his Nobel prize was earned, deserved, and a grand and glorious thing. But is this a sell-out, literally or figuratively? |
Subject: RE: Dylan's œuvre sold From: Jeri Date: 08 Dec 20 - 09:21 AM Oh hell, not another "I hate/love Dylan" thread. (I'm ignoring that line.) David Crosby (CSNY) sold his catalogue too. His reasons (I'm paraphrasing): he can't work, he has a mortgage and family, and needs money. Dylan probably has enough money, but who knows? |
Subject: RE: Dylan's œuvre sold From: Jos Date: 08 Dec 20 - 09:31 AM I don't know, but maybe he had a choice of buyers, and sold to the people he trusted to own it, rather than leave it to chance after he was gone. |
Subject: RE: Dylan's œuvre sold From: GUEST,JHW Date: 08 Dec 20 - 02:31 PM When I heard it made me feel old again. Whether you like(d) him or not he was part of my youth. Gave up when he went electric, well known story. Comment on trusting owners may be spot on. Guess he may be feeling old too. |
Subject: RE: Dylan's œuvre sold From: punkfolkrocker Date: 08 Dec 20 - 02:37 PM Thumbs up for Bob going electric... |
Subject: RE: Dylan's œuvre sold From: Allan Conn Date: 08 Dec 20 - 04:34 PM I agree Punk. "The Freewheeling Bob Dylan" and "Times They Are A Changing" are both great albums but then when he went electric he gave us three of the greatest rock albums of all time. I watched "No Direction Home" again last week and couldn't get over how silly and pathetic the booers were. "We didn't pay to come and see a beat group" they whinged. A whole year after "Bringing It All Back Home" and 6 months after the release of "Highway 61 Revisited" they must have been well aware they going to see a band. If they just wanted "Blowin In The Wind" written over and over then they should have just done it themselves and not disrespect the musicians like that ?? |
Subject: RE: Dylan's œuvre sold From: Dave Sutherland Date: 08 Dec 20 - 06:05 PM When I saw him at Newcastle on that tour in 1966 some of the audience were walking out as soon as the curtain for the second half went up. Clearly they were not prepared to give his new direction a chance. I would have loved to have been able to view their record collections five or ten years later. |
Subject: RE: Dylan's œuvre sold From: GUEST,.gargoyle Date: 08 Dec 20 - 06:17 PM IMHO - the greatest poet of "The Beat Generation." An entire novel ... he could capture in three lines. Sincerely, Gargoyle more than worthy of the Nobel Prize Reap while the harvest is ripe. |
Subject: RE: Dylan's œuvre sold From: Mrrzy Date: 08 Dec 20 - 11:47 PM "I'll let you be in my dream if I can be in yours. I said that." |
Subject: RE: Dylan's œuvre sold From: Mrrzy Date: 10 Dec 20 - 11:01 AM Hee hee new direction is pronounced exactly like nude erection. |
Subject: RE: Dylan's œuvre sold From: Reinhard Date: 10 Dec 20 - 11:41 AM ... which reminds me of 'Isle of View' |
Subject: RE: Dylan's œuvre sold From: GUEST,JHW Date: 10 Dec 20 - 04:41 PM I saw him at St.James's Park, Newcastle (for those who don't know). As I said earlier, a memory of youth. Didn't realise at the time. |
Subject: RE: Dylan's œuvre sold From: punkfolkrocker Date: 10 Dec 20 - 07:47 PM I remember spending the punk rock years annoyed that 'normal dull' students were playing Dylan's "Desire" LP at every party, and ham-fistedly strumming guitars for singalongs of his early 60s 'folkie' songs.. It wasn't until the 1980s when a flatmate played a bootleg tape of Dylan's judas concert, that I relented my hostility and started liking him... |
Subject: RE: Dylan's œuvre sold From: Mrrzy Date: 11 Dec 20 - 09:38 AM Not just Dylan... Blicky. |
Subject: RE: Dylan's œuvre sold From: G-Force Date: 11 Dec 20 - 09:49 AM I've never charged anyone for singing my songs. Not that anyone has ever sung any of them. |
