Hello folks, happy holidays. I am on a hunt for chords to the song “Birnie Bouzle”

From Brigit’s Well, the lyrics are as follows:

I first heard this song performed by Gordeanna McCulloch, so I always think of this song as a cappella:

A very simple set would be as follows:


(Am) Gin ye'll marry me, lassie,
(G)At the kirk o' Birnie Bouzle,
(Am)Till the day ye dee, lassie,
(G)Ye shall ne'er re (Am) pent it.

(Am) Ye shall wear when ye are wed
(G)A kirtle and a hieland plaid,
(Am) Sleep upon a heather bed
(G) Sae couthie and sae (Am) canty.

Or any combination of minor chord plus major below it in the scale, e.g. Em/D, Dm/C.
But as Joe suggests, it’s most often sung a cappella.

We do play “The Braes o’ Tulliemet” (as mentioned in the link there) in one of the ceilidh bands I’m in for dancing the Highland Schottische. It hadn’t occurred to me before that it was the tune for this song!
