Subject: Morris: A life with bells on - Amazon From: Dave the Gnome Date: 30 Dec 20 - 08:57 AM Good news for lovers of Morris, comedy and a good mixture of both. The mockumentary "Morris: A life with bells on" is currently available free for Amazon Prime customers. It will be on for me on New Years day while recovering from a surfeit of festive cheers :-) |
Subject: RE: Morris: A life with bells on - Amazon From: Jos Date: 30 Dec 20 - 09:09 AM There are five listed on Ebay, two of them under a tenner, so no need to sign up for Amazon prime. |
Subject: RE: Morris: A life with bells on - Amazon From: Dave the Gnome Date: 30 Dec 20 - 09:20 AM I'm already on Prime, Jos. Free delivery pays for itself every Christmas and especialy so this year. The streaming service is a bonus. :-) |
Subject: RE: Morris: A life with bells on - Amazon From: Jos Date: 30 Dec 20 - 12:06 PM I assumed you were, Dave, but most posts on Mudcat are addressed to any mudcatter who chooses to open the thread, and many, like me, choose not to use Amazon Prime. If any of those want the DVD they may be glad to know they needn't sign up. |
Subject: RE: Morris: A life with bells on - Amazon From: punkfolkrocker Date: 30 Dec 20 - 12:28 PM They may also be glad to know their high minded principles will only hurt their own pockets.. The two DVDs under a tenner on ebay are 2nd hand [trust a sellers description "as new"...???] Most new DVDs of this film are well overpriced.. ..over a tenner, up to 30 quid... The Prime streaming is High Definition, unlike inferior DVD quality. This matters a great deal to discerning viewers with large screen TVs. As like many recent British movies, this title has probably never been, never will be issued on HD Blu-ray. A months subscription to Prime and the thousands of movies available for streaming, costs less than the price of this single film on DVD... Yeah, superior principles and selective boycotts are definitely a costly luxury few ordinary folks can well afford... |
Subject: RE: Morris: A life with bells on - Amazon From: Jos Date: 30 Dec 20 - 12:43 PM I don't have a large screen television, and I don't want the hassle of signing up for Amazon Prime for a month and then cancelling - it's years since I bought anything from Amazon, not out of high ideals, just because I have so little need of them. |
Subject: RE: Morris: A life with bells on - Amazon From: punkfolkrocker Date: 30 Dec 20 - 12:59 PM DtG - it's your 'good news' thread.. over to you now... |
Subject: RE: Morris: A life with bells on - Amazon From: Dave the Gnome Date: 31 Dec 20 - 04:19 AM I have no add to grind or bell to ring :-) We have Prime, Netflix, Disney and Plex. I have also been known to occasionally download films using torrents but don't tell anyone :-D |
Subject: RE: Morris: A life with bells on - Amazon From: Jos Date: 31 Dec 20 - 04:25 AM I don't have Netflix or Disney, either, and I had never even heard of Plex. |
Subject: RE: Morris: A life with bells on - Amazon From: Dave the Gnome Date: 31 Dec 20 - 04:41 AM Plex is a free DLNA service for streaming music and films. But you do need a TV or device that can stream. The free version has adverts. Have either of you seen "Morris" BTW? |
Subject: RE: Morris: A life with bells on - Amazon From: punkfolkrocker Date: 31 Dec 20 - 07:03 AM yes.. the disco on the beach was ok.. [ if i remember correctly ?] Quite an enjoyable film, maybe not as great as Spinal Tap, but not enough car chases, or mindless sex and violence... Maybe the Next "John Wick" should involve a morris side... |
Subject: RE: Morris: A life with bells on - Amazon From: GUEST,Surrey fiddler Date: 31 Dec 20 - 07:12 AM My only recent experience of Amazon is of scam calls telling me my Amazon Prime subscription is due and I should press 1 to be put thru to someone who will take my money (or scam me). |
Subject: RE: Morris: A life with bells on - Amazon From: Jos Date: 31 Dec 20 - 07:17 AM Same here with the scam callers - at least as I don't have Amazon Prime I am not likely to be taken in. |
Subject: RE: Morris: A life with bells on - Amazon From: punkfolkrocker Date: 31 Dec 20 - 07:30 AM We do have Prime [& Sky, & Netflix.. & a TV license..] .. and oddly enough, we will also not get taken in by scam callers... DtG - it is a bit of a disappointment that a lot of recent low budget British films worth owning and collecting, are denied HD release on Blu-Ray... |
Subject: RE: Morris: A life with bells on - Amazon From: BobL Date: 01 Jan 21 - 03:26 AM Ah, "Morris: a Life with Bells On", the film that might have done for Morris dancing what "Calendar Girls" did for the WI. What did it ever do for the WI by the way? |
Subject: RE: Morris: A life with bells on - Amazon From: GUEST Date: 01 Jan 21 - 04:11 AM It raised over £5m for blood cancer research, Bob. |
Subject: RE: Morris: A life with bells on - Amazon From: BobL Date: 02 Jan 21 - 02:11 AM Thanks Guest, glad to hear it. |
Subject: RE: Morris: A life with bells on - Amazon From: Mr Red Date: 02 Jan 21 - 03:54 AM Yeah, superior principles and selective boycotts are definitely a costly luxury few ordinary folks can well afford... - It is cheaper refraining from consuming, if it is about money. And sometimes it is about the planet. & it ain't all about money. Have you tried cancelling Prime? Have you tried buying on Amazon and have to search for a small moveable clickie to avoid Prime every time? A small inconvenience that looms large in people who want to deal with integrity. I want "opt-in" not "gotcha". And when I search for a product I don't want Amazon to ignore half of my search terms and still be the top of the list. Monopolies come with caveats. So do Oligopolies. And while I am on a rant - I would recommend "The Way of the Morris" a more rewarding film IMNSHO. |
Subject: RE: Morris: A life with bells on - Amazon From: Dave the Gnome Date: 02 Jan 21 - 04:06 AM Streaming is better for the planet than using DVDs. |
Subject: RE: Morris: A life with bells on - Amazon From: punkfolkrocker Date: 02 Jan 21 - 12:02 PM Mr Red - one man's higher principles is another man's patronising lecture from a crackpot zealot... We can be sure Amazon Prime aint the worst spawn of satan unleashed on 21st Century globalised existence.. As iniquities go, it's actually quite a good 'un, relatively beneficial to the lives of most ordinary folks... |
