We were supposed to be going to see Elephant Sessions not long after lockdown was announced so particularly looking forward to seeing them! |

Of course, the "seats" for such online events will vary depending on what technology and gadgets you have to view same. I enjoy watching on my 50" Smart TV but it would be much less fun if all you have is a lap top or even a mobile phone. Unfortunately, because of such limitations, I'd imagine that many people won't always feel inclined to purchase as many online gigs as they used to do with physical concerts. Or, at least, they will focus on their favourite artists. |

It uses Vimeo, as for the trailer, but being a subscription stream you'd probably need to use a browser to sign in - unless your TV has a Vimeo app that allows sign-in. I'd appreciate longer sets from some of the artists though. Watching on TV was slightly more complicated than I thought as you are sent a link rather than a code. It was a laborious process to try and type this address into the browser on the TV and it didn't seem to work. I believe you can also "stream" the show from your phone/tablet and duplicate it on the TV screen by Blue Tooth but I'd hoped just to type a code into the browser (e.g. on the CC site) on my TV and use Wi Fi as I've been able to do with some other purchased concerts. However, I eventually opted for a cable connection and used the TV as a duplicate monitor. So, I'm "cooking by gas" now! ;-)) Anyway, it's well worth making the effort. |

(We had to replace our TV a year ago, so we now have a fairly smart one!) It did take ages typing in passwords though, to get it to work. Have been enjoying a lot of what I've seen so far, though admit to "fast-forwarding" a couple of items! Highlights so far would be the opening concert, the Duncan Chisholm concert (for UK viewers on BBC ALBA) and last night's "Come Away In" night with Karine Polwart and others. I am tending to view things after the release time, as I have other regular Zoom sessions most evenings! Facebook tells me that Dublin's Tradfest is also on, with various concerts to view online: too much choice now everything is online, and you don't have to worry about physically getting there! |

I think Donald and his team have done an excellent job putting this together! Shame it clashes with Burns Supper time - but then, why do we only celebrate Burns on his birthday. surely he is a man for all seasons?! I do miss the excitement of travelling to the city, going for a meal, to the pub for a session, to the concert hall or other venues - however until we are all vaccinated and pandemic is well under control (I hope?) it just is not worth the risk, gotta do as Nicola tells us! |

"if it ain't broke, don't fix it" and it's quite good to view the concert on two screens simultaneously. Yes, you can nip away for a coffee or something stronger and even "pause" the show too. It's also possible to watch each concert for up to a week. So, we can still have a day off with Rabbie Burns. However, I fear if there had been Covid in Burns day, he'd have been a bit of a "super spreader" ;-) |

However, I recieved an e-mail from them with a "Link Button" which directed me to the available concert videos. If you have the right kind of "Smart TV" or a Fire stick" or similar, you should be able to access or download a browser for your TV. You can use your remote to type in addresses or do searches but it's a slow process... Also possible to connect a more efficient type of pointer or some form of keyboard connection by Blue Tooth as well but I've not got around to that. Anyway, with some concerts etc, it was just a simple case of typing in a code in the website. A slower process with the remote but manageable. However, that didn't seem possible. So, another option was to bring up my e-mail account in the TV browser, open the e-mail and click on the link just as I would on my PC or laptop. There are other ways, of course, but I already had the cable link "in situ" from the days when I didn't have such a "smart" TV. So, it was a simple solution just to plug it into a spare HDMI port. |

Subject: RE: Celtic Connections 2021 online From: peteglasgow Date: 20 Jan 21 - 05:51 AM i'm enjoying this - and once i get used to signing in - it is a good service. i'm missing my trips to glasgow more than anything aince march and have had 4/5 nights at celtic connections for the last 15ish years, a great festival and a real boost in the short, dreich days of january. £33 (and £7 for tax) is a real bargain when i would normally spend hundreds. one very minor quibble - in the past i have rung the concert hall to get a few tickets for upcoming events. at the end of our conversation a very helpful voice always said 'there'll be a £1.50 charge, for postage - is that OK?' - there was no question of 'tax' or 'booking fee' or whatever else they can think of to fleece us concert goers. still, maybe we can return to sanity and decency - and pubs- next year. |

You don't need a TV serice, Most of the foregoing discussion is because I wanted to display it a TV, which is more than twice as big and has better definition than my laptop, but is not 'smart' or internet connected. I read that 75% of UK households 'have access to' a smart TV, so I'm in a minority. But I wonder if it's a minority of folk concert goers? |

It may be a loose definition of "smart", of course. I had a very good Samsung TV for a good few years which wasn't "smart" but it did have USB and HDMI ports. So, all you needed to do was either connect a cable or a "firestick" etc. So, it would have done fine for this situation. The only reason I replaced it was that some white dots (caused by reflector caps falling of the back of the pixels)had begun to appear on the screen. Uneconomical to have repaired by an engineer and too much of a bother to do myself. However, it's still handy to watch in the spare room. |

I'm just going for some individual concerts because of some scheduling conflicts and simply too much good music happening online right now. (Still missing live in person music, though, like most people.) I usually watch on my iPad and sometimes on a laptop. If I ever do get a TV again, it will probably be a smart TV, but for now I've been content to watch online. But it is nice to have the larger, better definition picture, so enjoy your own watching. |

I just checked and the videos will still be available for a week after airing. So scheduling conflicts aren't really an issue, just overall video time. I am not watching anything at the scheduled time: all after the event, e.g. while cleaning the kitchen, out in the car (husband driving and only within Covid-allowed limits!), doing my physio exercises, rather than being a couch potato for 3 weeks. So yes, you don't need to put it on your Tv: I am variously watching 9or at least listening) on laptop, iPad or phone, depending where I am at the time. |

There were quite a lot of items that were not really my cup of tea, and either fast-forwarded or cut them off before thernd. I am still running behindhand so my next concerts to catch up on will be Transatlantic Sessions and the Quebec concert. Those I most enjoyed prior to that would include Rant, Cherish the Ladies, the piping concert with Conundrum et al, Siobhan Miller, Blazin’ Fiddles and Marit Falt’s group. Some of the bands had me longing for something a bit slower, and, another sign of getting old, some tunes that seem to go on forever and all sound the same! |

Last night I watched the piping concert with Tryst, Conundrum etc which was very good. I also enjoyed Transatlantic Sessions and the Sunday night one with Dean Owens, Rhiannon Giddens et al. I preferred Imar(Moshen's other band) to Talisk which was slightly more traditional in feel if not repertoire... Personally, I don't mind fast music as long as there's a tune or melody there somewhere. The wild "frenetic" and predominantly rhythmic feel is fine if you are up "having a bop" but less so for listening. Mind you, these youngsters can "do it well" and if there's a market, good luck to them. |
