I have heard Duncan Chisholm live, ie straight in front of me and thoroughly enjoyed but my favourites have included new tunes by (eg) Ivan Drever or Phil Cunningham. An old tradition if not a millenium old.

BBC Alba last night (15 Jan 2021) and on the iPlayer:

Duncan Chisolm Live Kelvingrove Celtic Connections

Well worth a listen and available for a month I think.

At one point he states that the highlands have "a line of music and culture that goes back over a thousand years" . . . . .

I'm not trying to be provocative here, or upset anyone's sensibilities, but to what extent can today's Highland music and culture be traced back to the 11th Century?

Harry
