An upside of the pandemic for me is that I've finally found a situation where being an introverted home body is an advantage. I've spent my life living in a world that is run by extroverts who define their way of being as the only acceptable way and, for the most part, don't even know that there is a different way.

I'm fortunate enough to not be in isolation by myself, but I suspect that even that would be relatively easy for me. While I was off work for several months, I played a ton of music, am learning a new instrument, and recorded a bunch of music I've written that has never fit into any bands I've played or recorded with.

I enjoy the Mudcat Zoom sessions on Mondays, where one frequently sees people singing along, though their mics are muted, so it is one performer and several who are silently accompanying.

Thanks for coming back to the 'cat, Stewart!

It has been a horrid year even without extra problems. Sorry to hear of yours.
I tried Zoom dancing, that didn't feel the same, zoom sessions and zoom choir aren't the same either, but better than nothing. And John Spiers Isolation sessions are good to play along to as he edits the contributions together so it feels a bit like playing in a pub.
It would be too easy to sink into apathy.

It's good to hear from you, Stewart. I think of you every once in a while. I'm sorry for all the difficulties you've had in your life. Nice to hear about your long talks with Ken - if that's Ken B, I had many long talks with him fifty years ago, and I really enjoyed that.
It's so sad that you had to sell your home that had such a wonderful musical history.
You probably already know about this link to Zoom sessions in the Seattle area: http://www.seafolklore.org/wp/virtual-sings/
We have a Mudcat Worldwide Singaround on Mondays at noon and running about 5 hours. Email me if you want to be on the notification

Music Interrupted - Stewart: I'm back again on Mudcat after almost a year. In case you wondered.

There were many interruptions during this pandemic, and music was one of them.

Last year, 2019, was good for music – monthly house jams with music friends, monthly concerts I produced for the Pacific Northwest Folklore Society at the Couth Buzzard, and also, weekly practice sessions on Wednesday mornings, playing violin with my friend Ken on guitar. At those sessions, we not only practiced fiddle tunes but talked about music, philosophy, and the many things going on in our lives. Sometimes we talked more than we played, but that was good. Then we were interrupted... Read More
