Mrrzy, "tonguing" was the processing of the whale after one was caught and brought to shore.

I read somewhere (maybe somewhere on Mudcat) that there were lots of songs about sailors killing whales, and lots of songs about whales killing sailors, but Wellerman may be the only one that ends in a draw.

A convergence of the two cultural phenomena that are blowing up right now. First was the TikTok Sea Shanty craze and then there's vast interest in Bernie's mittens. Both of these are a bit bizarre but also kind of cool. I think Americans, and everyone else to some extent, are feeling like we're coming out from under a dark cloud since the inauguration. Perhaps a little giddiness is to be expected.
