While Mick did a lot of good work for folk music in general he was especially supportive of the singers and musicians of the East Midlands with particular emphasis on young performers. Subject: RE: 2021 Obit: Mick Peat From: punkfolkrocker Date: 23 Jan 21 - 12:01 PM Several years ago when I didn't know who Mick was, I chanced upon an item I was looking for, which he was selling [so long ago, can't now remember if the ad was in a paper like "Loot", or online...???] We had good friendly phone calls about it; he knew what it could be worth but refused to even consider selling it for more than the low price he'd decided he'd be happy with.. He insisted I shouldn't feel bad as if I was ripping him off, because he wanted to move it on to a younger skint musician.. Only after that did I discover who and how significant Mick was.. Mick Peat, what a genuine rare top bloke... |

Subject: RE: 2021 Obit: Mick Peat From: GUEST,Clive Pownceby Date: 25 Jan 21 - 09:38 AM Mention of Whitby calls to mind an especial memory of Mick and Celia manning the door to The Big Bamboo on the Wednesday Bop Till You Drop nights. Such was the popularity of this event with Shagpile led by Dave Burland, that queues would develop round the Royal Hotel carpark and out into the street a good hour before 'doors.' Once these opened there was much jostling and shoving to get through the narrow entrance that it took diplomacy with a firm hand to keep us in order, achieved in no small part with Mick's gruff good humour. Woe betide any queue jumping or gate-crashing though - you wouldn't argue with Mr Peat! |
