Just posted this to the news, but figured not all of you see it:

The Fall 1999 Edition of the Digital Tradition for PC and Unix is now available for download (sorry for the delay). It is also installed here at the Mudcat, so go ahead and search for oct99 to see all the new submissions. I also modified the new SuperSearch to search both the Digitrad and the Forum. Stay tuned because more tweaks and changes are imminent.

Also, this weeks Radio Show is going to be a special one, so be sure and tune in around 7pm EST this wednesday. We will be in an ICQ room during the show this week. My ICQ Number is: 55532561.

I should have a couple of other changes and new features trickling in this week, so stay tuned...

Max
Don't ever apologise for the delay. What we've had so far makes most of us forever grateful.
Regards Baz

The apology is mostly to Susan of DT. She likes to raz me about my DT delays. I really did take too long on that anyhow. Some things aren't that hard, but I can't seem to ever get around to them. Oh well, tis done.

Now, Max, I think you need to take a lesson from the business world, and not admit to procrastination. I'd suggest you rename this edition DTY2K, and then everybody will be duly impressed with the timely appearance of the New and Improved Database. Whatever the case, we're glad to have it.
Now, when is the Spring 2000 edition coming out????? (grin)

(I have to admit that I was surprised that the most recent of Windows, Win98, 2nd Edition, came out late in 1999.)

Gee Max - I don't bug you THAT much. Of course, I get another chance this weekend, assuming you will be at Annap's.

Joe - We aim for October and April, to be ready for the Washington weekends. After preparing the DOS version, Dick does something to it before sending it to Max and to the Mac person. Max then has to do something else to it before posting it. So it takes a little while...

Max, you are a wonder. If you treat your business clients this well, they must LOVE you.

All the best,
Dan

I made a few other adjustments using my new search. When you try to create a new thread, I now use the new search to look for anything that may relate (replacing the weaker search). This should cut down on redundant requests. Let me know if its any good, but don't go posting new threads just to see.

Max, Does the "Create new Thread" link actually create the thread right then and there, or do you have a chance to bail out if the search says there's already been a thread on that subject? Over the last year, we've been having quite a number of duplicate thread creations, and that never used to happen. It used to be that we'd almost never get duplicate thread creations, even though we've always gotten duplicate messages. Seems to me something changed in the thread creation process that made it more likely for us to have duplicate threads. Also, it used to be that I could delete all the messages in a thread and it would disappear from the Forum Menu. Now, the empty duplicate thread stays on the menu, even though I've deleted or moved all the messages.

Aw, Susan, I'm just teasing. You should be used to my weird Midwestern brand of humor by now. But if you were less honest about it, nobody would ever know there was a delay. Did you ever hear Bill Gates admit that something was delayed?

The Thread is not created until the first message is posted, so YES, you can bail out.

As far as duplicate and empty threads goes, both are on our list (of 20 things) that need to be done. We need 3 days to do it all, which of course we don't have now.
