Breaking news Prince Harry blah blah blah...

Relentless, no other news since I switched on the TV.

One posh female royal commentator after another blathering on endlessly..

Newsreader trying her best to sound interested asking trite fawning questions..

Same bloody video clips on constant loop.

Nearly an hour later.. finally got some other news headlines...

Maybe it's the deceased moggy that is seemingly more important than this:

I bet Phil the Racist Greek is pissed off because he's only the second most important news item now, behind the spoiled-brat couple who have swanned off abroad without giving us a full refund of all the money we've wasted on them, especially him. C'mon, Phil. You have to do better than "being in hospital as a precaution" and "walking into hospital on your own two feet completely unaided...". Give us some REAL news! Have something amputated!

We are fed a constant drip feed of "royal news" oh look someone's wearing a jumper similar to those in Primark, oh look someone has a pink frock on, oh look someone actually opened the car door themselves.

I doubt if a single day has passed in the 70 years ER2 has been on the throne when at least one main story in the media has not been about one of the dysfunctional lot.

Sadly the coverage works.

Sadly the coverage works.

Clearly not if you've gained the impression that The Queen has been on the throne for 70 years.
Her father died in 1952.

It just feels that way, Nigel. For example, when anyone asks Mrs Steve how long we've been married, she'll often say "Oh, about 95 years..."

Deceased moggy = dead cat, as in "Look over there, there's a dead cat." "Don't look here, I don't want you to see this" ie distraction strategy. And the royals function very well as a distraction strategy for this government.

I have 'met' Prince Philip when he was Chancellor of Edinburgh University. I say 'met', but we selected students from the Faculty of Arts were lined up rather nervously waiting for the Great Pooh Bah to do a walkabout. He emerged from the David Hume Tower, stalked past us with his nose in the air and a look on his face as if he'd just trodden in some dog shit (perhaps he had?) and spoke to no-one. Arrogance and disdain oozed from his every pore.
I've posted on here before about Princess Margaret who 'interviewed' my fierce father (GPO Manager for West London) in Kensington Palace about installing secure phone lines. She was absolutely rude, snotty, arrogant and dismissive, but he gave as good as he got!
They seem to have this disgraceful attitude that they're better than everyone else and the 'oiks' are beneath their feet.
Sod that!

keb:

'moggy' is old englische for 'cat'.

"Somebody's moggy, by the side of the road....
Somebody's kitten, 'oo forget the 'ighway code.
Someone's favorite feline, 'oo ran clean out of luck.
When 'e went into the street and tried to argue with a truck!"

Many years ago, when my lad was a teenager (he's forty now) and doing his grades on guitar, Princess Anne came to Bude for some ceremonial thing wot I've forgotten was all about. Sonny Jim was commandeered into playing some classical pieces in a backroom as the Chinless One was doing the regal rounds in our municipal building. At one point, Prinny Anne was heard to remark, "Ooh, where's the BEAUTIFUL music coming from?" Meladdo has dined out on that for the last twenty years or more. But he still isn't a royalist!

and that songs was written by Scottish Australian songwriter Eric Bogle, & making this a music thread, here are the words from the Digital Tradition

NOBODY'S MOGGY NOW
(Eric Bogle)

Somebody's moggy by the side of the road
Somebody's moggy who forgot his highway code
Someone's favourite feline who ran clean out of luck
When he ran onto the road and tried to argue with a truck

Yesterday he burled and played in his pussy paradise
Decapitating tweety birds and masticating mice
Now he's just six pounds of raw minced meat
That don't smell very nice

He's nobody's moggy now.

You who love your pussy, be sure to keep him in
Don't let him argue with a truck, the truck is bound to win
And upon a busy road, don't let him play or frolic
If you do, I'm warning you, it could be cat-astrophic
If he tries to play on the roadway I'm afraid that will be that
There will be one last despairing meouw and a sort of squelchy splat
And your pussy will be slightly dead and very very flat
He's nobody's moggy, just red and squashed and soggy,

He's nobody's moggy nooow, hoummmmm...

---------------------------------------------------------------------
recorded by Eric Bogle
Larrikin Music
"I wrote 'Nobody's Moggy Now' in 1982 which alienated every cat-lover
in the Southern Hemisphere, and a fair proportion in the Northern
Hemisphere as well." - Eric Bogle

Thank you so much for that! Now, I got the impression that a moggy is generally female, but the song specifically uses the male pronoun.

I've sung that song for years and possibly alienated a few cat lovers myself. I am a cat lover, but a good song is a good song!

Maybe we can do a song of sorrow for cold, powerless, grid isolated Texas.

In my experience, a moggy is generally thought of as a less than thoroughbred cat; if it was a dog it would be called a 'mongrel',

I don't imagine that many moggies live on royal estates.

Thee was about ten minutes of the Today programme this morning (around 8.30) that was an absolute hoot. Maybe that's the bit you're talking about? Two or three people sitting around earnestly discussing public service, universal service, royal service, etc. Utter hilarious bollocks. But just think - by far the greatest contribution that the royals have made to the country is Nicholas Witchell...

I have, to use a wonderful American word, zilch interest in any royals, though a small bit of a smile for the Dutch and Danes who cycle around like us normals.
But I have a bit of a soft spot for yer wan Meghan. It seems to me that she rescued a lost boy who was on the high road to alcoholism and much stupid stuff, and brought him into the nearest thing his class have to a normal married life.
The nasty bitchiness of the British tabloids towards her drove them both away; they obviously have no real notion of what real work means (not surprising when the papers refer to "working" members of the British royal family), but are doing their best. It's a pity they're falling into the same trap as her late mother-in-law, in baring their souls on a television programme, but we all have to live and learn.
If the British - especially the newspapers that instruct them - had lovingly accepted a dark-skinned girl into their royal family, it would have made one hell of a difference to a country with a minority of its citizens coming from its former African, Indian and Caribbean colonies.

I'm very tired of reading about Harry and Meghan in the newspaper. I couldn't care less about what they're doing, what the Queen thinks of them, how Harry has been divested of his various roles etc. Boring (yawn)
As for Eugenie and the new baby, again, couldn't care less. She could call it Spotty Dick for all I care.

they obviously have no real notion of what real work means (not surprising when the papers refer to "working" members of the British royal family), but are doing their best. It's a pity they're falling into the same trap as her late mother-in-law, in baring their souls on a television programme, but we all have to live and learn.

You may not consider acting "working," but the people I know who are actors consider it work. And Meghan spent 15 years as a working actor before leaving it when she married.

From an article she wrote for Elle:
'What are you?' A question I get asked every week of my life, often every day. 'Well,' I say, as I begin the verbal dance I know all too well. 'I'm an actress, a writer, the Editor-in-Chief of my lifestyle brand The Tig, a pretty good cook and a firm believer in handwritten notes.' A mouthful, yes, but one that I feel paints a pretty solid picture of who I am. But here's what happens: they smile and nod politely, maybe even chuckle, before getting to their point, 'Right, but what are you? Where are your parents from?' I knew it was coming, I always do. While I could say Pennsylvania and Ohio, and continue this proverbial two-step, I instead give them what they're after: 'My dad is Caucasian and my mom is African American. I'm half black and half white.'

She supported herself and was making a difference on her own before she met Harry. And "falling into a trap"? Interviews are a matter of course for anyone who is known for their work. In the US, there is a category of "famous for being famous" like Paris Hilton or the Kardashians, but they generate their own carefully-scripted "reality show" media, they don't wait to be asked to be interviewed. I don't think you'll see Harry and Meghan in that second group.

Getting on with their lives and using their fame for good works and for well-considered projects to earn a living is probably refreshing for Harry. He's lucky to be out of the royalty racket and free to be himself. From what we understand about his mother's attitudes, she would have applauded the move, don't you think?

"He's lucky to be out of the royalty racket and free to be himself."

Gosh, he's lucky all right. He had the start in life that most kids could only dream of (worry not, I think I might know what you might throw back at me). The best education and housing and healthcare and nannies that (our tax money) could buy. Automatic promotions up the military ladder. Money to burn. Gosh, yes. He's been lucky all right. And now he can swan off to California to live a life of luxury. Lucky is certainly the word.

And I have it from a friend of a friend of a friend who knows him intimately that he's, er, not too bright. All you need is luck...

qualifying as an apache helicopter commander is not a guarantee of being of the highest intelligence any more than being a driving instructor, it does indicate that he has some practical skills and some learning abilty, his probably just an average guy who has a privileged background

According to the Daily Telegraph[ The mouthpiece of the uk Conservative party... in an IQ TEST Harry only scored four whilst william scored seven , that does indicate he is not the brightest.

I had to check that one out. It appears to come from here: Telegraph 6 Nov 2005 and does not give a statement that "Harry only scored four". His score appears to be unknown, and the article relies on hearsay.

Prince William is the brains of the family - it's official. The 23-year-old prince, who is to enrol at the Sandhurst Royal Military Academy in January, scored seven out of 10 in the "raw intelligence" test, when he took part in a gruelling assessment at the Regular Commissions Board in Westbury, Wiltshire.

Prince Harry is understood to have scored four in the same test in September last year.

The article also gives some background of the test: A-levels get very high scores. A score of 10 out of 10 means you are a genius, while one or zero means you are barely functioning. Seven, which William received, is very, very good. He also displayed good leadership skills. On the showing he gave at the RCB there is no reason why he shouldn't make a very good officer."
This seems to show that William is exceptional, but does not give any guidance on what a score of 4 would represent, even if that were Harry's score.

".. in an IQ TEST Harry only scored four whilst william scored seven , that does indicate he is not the brightest."

Intelligence Quotient tests normally have scores ranging either side of 100. Two thirds of the population score between 85 and 115, giving a Median score of 100.

About 2.5% of the population scores above 130 and 2.5 % below 85.

To score just 4 would indicate a very serious condition.
