I saw Buffy twice, way back when. Once at a festival in Lincoln, UK 1971, and also in the 70s at a concert in Manchester, UK. The great thing about Buffy is that she is a true original. And, she has an Oscar! How many folkies have got one of them?

Still alive in spite of everybody and everything!
And a proud mother
(is she a grandmother as well?)

Yes, such a hugely talented lady. Many, many great songs but three of my favourites are "Universal Soldier" and "Piney Wood Hill's" and "Must I Go Bound."

Congratulations! She's a prominent member of a great generation.

I'd vote for Until It's Time For You to Go, but there are so many to choose from.

Did anyone sing any Buffy St Marie songs at the Mudcat singaround yesterday? I missed the first two hours (some people sang songs for World Whale Day, 19 Feb and there was at least one song for US Presidents' Day)

Here is a facebook post from a publisher of feminist books for children, A Mighty Girl https://www.amightygirl.com/:

Happy 82nd birthday to music legend Buffy Sainte-Marie! Over the past fifty years, the Canadian musician and singer-songwriter has released over twenty albums. Her songs often focus on themes such as love, war, and religion, including the famous 1960s era protest song, Universal Soldier. Sainte-Marie has also been active for decades on issues related to promoting the empowerment of the Indigenous peoples of North America. In 1977, she famously appeared on Sesame Street and breastfed her son during the show. "I think I was the first person to nurse a baby on major television," she said recently. "I mean, think of the impact: it was three shows a day in 72 countries."

Born on the Piapot Plains Cree First Nation Reserve in Saskatchewan, Canada, Sainte-Marie was raised by adoptive parents in Massachusetts. She taught herself guitar as a teenager and, by the early 1960s, she had become active in Greenwich Village folk music scene in New York City. Sainte-Marie began to tour around North America, becoming especially well-known for her protest songs and social activism. In the 1970s, she gained an interest in experimental music and earned a PhD in Fine Art from the University of Massachusetts. Sainte-Marie has continued to compose and perform for decades and, in 2015, she released a highly acclaimed album, "Power In The Blood," after a seven year hiatus from recording.

Buffy Sainte-Marie is also the author of two children's books: "Hey Little Rockabye: A Lullaby for Pet Adoption" (https://amzn.to/3sMYzs0) and "Tâpwê and the Magic Hat" (https://amzn.to/3gYeXR6)

To introduce kids to this musical icon, she is one of 40 incredible women featured in the inspiring book "Rad Women Worldwide" for ages 10 and up at https://www.amightygirl.com/rad-women-worldwide

Adults can learn more about her remarkable life in the recent biography "Buffy Sainte-Marie: The Authorized Biography" at https://amzn.to/33zznga

Felipa, I have posted the list of songs from yesterday's singaround. I don't recognize any of them as being Buffy Sainte-Marie songs.
