Doing the usual lock down sort out I came across this badge which, as you will see, led me to realise it is nearly 20 years since we met at the Jug Inn, Chapel Haddlesey for a splendid weekend of music, fun and frollics. Or was it Bollicks..? :-)

John Snelson (Pied Piper) was there with his electronic bagpipe chanter. I met Malcolm Douglas for the first and last time. Both are now sadly departed. On a Jollier note the scratch ceilidh band with Bill Sables and Sam Pirt was great. I gave someone a lift from either Manchester or Leeds but for the life of me can't remember who. I also remember Bill Sables and I going to Doncaster Station to pick someone up but can't remember who that was either! I blame old age and poverty.

Anyone else have fond memories of that wonderful weekend?

I was at that one.

The thing I recall most was when a troop of dancers were outside a pub situated on a 90 degree corner. A cattle truck came round with a VERY nervous cow on it which proceeded to spray the whole team!!

I missed that, Raggy! Must have been drunk under a table somewhere :-)

Look at that! I have a few t-shirts from over the years, and the Blue Plate Special CDs, but I haven't ever been to an actual Mudcat event. Lucky you!

Remembering the first meeting was at the Black Dog at Camblesforth

Thanks for the reminder Dave.
Some photos I took at that weekend are in the Mudcat Events Archive:
Yorkshire Gathering at The Jug May, 2001
Sadly another four participants I see there are no longer with us:
Patrish, 8pints, Joan from Wigan and the lovely Mooman.

That scratch ceili band was great fun, as was the whole weekend.
Perhaps one day we may once again be able to play, sing and have fun together as in days of yore?

Just remembered, Noreen. As a direct result of meeting Bill Sables and playing your concertina at that event I bought a Lachenal Anglo off Bill! Sold it now to fund the restoration of a similar one but I now know who to blame for setting me on the slippery slope of instrument acquisition :-D

Thanks again, Noreen. Spotted one of the ones I arranged at Swinton Folk Club, Manchester. October 2000. Doesn't time fly!

Crumbs, Noreen, I didn't know Patrish had gone on, sad news.

Dave, was it possibly Joe Offer that you went with Bill to pick up? I think Joe's visit may have been for the Black Dog, Camblesforth gathering, which is where I think the scratch band played. Barry Evans was the caller, the band was maybe fourteen strong, and the puritan Micca led any potential dancers away for singing and quaffing ale in the bar.
