Subject: Folk/world/trad on Telegram From: Jack Campin Date: 06 Apr 21 - 08:48 AM In the impenetrable chaos of Telegram there ought to be some discussion groups or broadcast channels for music I'd be interested in. How would I go about finding it? The visible stuff is all pop. |

Subject: RE: Folk/world/trad on Telegram From: Jack Campin Date: 07 Apr 21 - 01:26 AM Why? The political reasons are well known - they aren't as controlling as Facebook - but there is also a technical one, they support a much larger variety of file types, as things you can post directly rather than just link to. Including many kinds of sound files. Makes for a much better music setup than trying to get things into Soundcloud and then making links from FB or Mudcat. |
Subject: RE: Folk/world/trad on Telegram From: Manitas_at_home Date: 07 Apr 21 - 01:47 AM I was being facetious, Jack. Telegrams are messages sent over wire to a receiving station and then delivered to the addressee by hand. It's apparently long enough that people have forgotten and the name can be applied to a vastly different service. https://www.britishtelegram.com/ |
Subject: RE: Folk/world/trad on Telegram From: Jack Campin Date: 07 Apr 21 - 02:07 AM To be more precise about the issue: unlike most internet forum systems, Telegram doesn't classify its forums into a thesaurus-like structure. The only way to find a forum is to know its name (which in the case of the private forums, will not be something humanly knowable). Even for public forums this won't always be obvious. So, what public forums are there on Telegram that I might be interested in? |
Subject: RE: Folk/world/trad on Telegram From: Megan L Date: 07 Apr 21 - 03:39 AM Well I thought it was funny Manitas if someone said telegram to me i would have thought of a lad on a motorcycle delivering an envelope. When I was little dad(a postman) worked in a small office each had to take a turn on night shift I remember the night the machine started spitting out tape |
Subject: RE: Folk/world/trad on Telegram From: Jack Campin Date: 07 Apr 21 - 05:23 AM What it is: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telegram_(software) Signal may be comparable (improved security in some respects, not something I'm very bothered about) but I haven't got a way of running it. If you try looking for useful answers to my question via search engines, you tend to find they're drowned out by hucksters trying to make a fast buck. What's in it for Mudcat users generating mindless destructive noise about it I can't imagine. |
