Subject: RE: Special Mudcat Radio Tonight, Episode XVII From: Alan of Australia Date: 13 Jan 00 - 08:37 AM G'day, I suppose this is relevant to some of the conversation during this episode. Toyota has been running some ads here, in the first there are a series of mishaps with the victim responding with "Bugger!" Even the cattle dog takes a leap for the back of a ute (Aussie pickup), misses & lands in the mud. "Bugger!" he says. In the current ad Toyota are having "A Big Bugger of a sale". In a totally unrelated McDonalds ad a bloke driving a ute finds his lunch box empty. He says "Bugger!" The cattle dog in the back isn't too impressed either. Then the driver sees a McDonalds, drives in & the dog says "Burger". The bloke drives off & eats the big mac himself. "Bugger!" says the dog. In spite of its origins the word seems to be fairly acceptable these days, although the McDonalds ad seems to be cut before kiddie bedtime.
Cheers, |
