(Via Bob Copper & Alfred Williams) I’ll harness my horses & follow the plough While darling Miss Catherine is milking her cow. Chorus So let it come early late or soon I will enjoy my love in June. Oh love I will carry thy sweet milking pail Oh love I will kiss you at every stile. Oh the roses are red & the violets are blue Carnations are sweet love & so are you. ‘Twas Down in the valley, the valley so sweet I will pick some plain roses to keep my love sweet. Subject: RE: Any June Songs? From: GerryM Date: 04 Mar 23 - 06:18 PM Dana Lyons wrote and recorded JUNE IS A COMING, available at https://youtu.be/1ez1DOKchD0 Lots of months get mentioned in this song, set in Seattle. The first stanza goes, The Fall is the sunniest time of the year And the mountains are clear every day, But November it brings home the clouds And the rain once again, December is many warm nights by the fire Reading stories and sipping some beer, With the days growing longer, The end of the winter seems near. The 2nd stanza mentions March. We finally get to June in the 3rd stanza: June is a coming, the salmon are running And I've got to be on my way, I don't want to leave you my darling But there's so many more debts to pay, They say that the catch will be bigger this year And we'll all come home rich in the end, I don't want to leave you my darling, But the nets will be loaded by dawn, June is a coming and I must be rolling along. |

Subject: RE: Any June Songs? From: GUEST,henryp Date: 10 May 22 - 06:29 PM Mike Waterson's last song An August Bank Holiday Lark draws on those traditions. Remarkably rehearsals have been divided equally between work on the text and Conrad Nelson's work on the music and dancing. Barry Rutter writes, "My friend, the late great Mike Waterson, was one of the doyens of English folk. I met him when he was dying and I said, ‘Do you want to write me a song for 2014?'. He said, ‘I won't see 2014 – I'm dying.' I said, ‘I know you are, but I'd like you to write a Rushcart Song.' So he wrote it and recorded it with Eliza Carthy, Norma Waterson and Martin Carthy in their studio in Robin Hood's Bay. Conrad's taken that song and incorporated it into the play. |
