Can you suggest any songs associated with the month of June ie: (A) Any songs with June in the title (B) Any songs with a June date given in the lyrics (C) Any songs referencing an event that is known to have occurred in June even if the lyrics do not actually say so.
It would be very helpful to have links to performances of the songs and also more sources of information about them.
As the thread develops I shall possibly re-organise some posts and add an index to make the songs easy to find.
Directly below is an alphabetical index of the titles collected in this thread. If a title in this index is blue then by clicking it you should be jumped to the section of the thread in which most of the discussion and links for that title occur. If you just want to add a new post to this thread use the “Post to this thread” button, above, to jump to the end of the thread. I shall sometimes rearrange “late” posts to group them with their appropriate main area of discussion so that they are not overlooked. Regards, GeoffLawes

Words by Robert Burns. Is it usually sung to a traditional tune?

It isn't uncommon for variants of a song to come in both May and JUne variants. This is the case with The Banks of the Roses.
Version 5 in the Digital tradition starts

Oh, if ever I get married, it will be in June,
When the fields and the flowers are out in full bloom,
For 'twas there I spied my true love by the light of the moon,
All on the banks of the roses.
For 'twas there I spied my true love by the light of the moon,
All on the banks of the roses.

There are lots of songs with 'midsummer' in the lyrics, especially 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'.

Including one by Joni Mitchell from 1967. It's not on her 'Archives Vol 1' box set, which I have, and covers 1963-1967.

I discovered the other dat that ome people regard the feast of St John (the Baptist) - June 24th - as midsummer day. St John's Eve is is the subject of many songs, including French and Russian folksongs, and this from Coco Robicheaux:

June 18, 1812 the US House of Representatives and the Senate voted to declare war on Britain. The conflict is known as ‘The War of 1812 and formally began on 18 June,1812 A year later, on 1 June 1813, the Battle of Boston Harbour was fought in which the US ship The Chesapeake was captured by HMS Shannon of the British navy

The Beaches of St. Valery
Davy Steele

'Til the 51st Highlanders found themselves back
On the banks of the Somme one more time.
It still bore the scars of that war to end wars.
The old soldier's scars deep in their minds.
But we couldn't stay long for the Panzers rolled on
As the battle raged west t'wards the sea,
Until on June the 10th when sapped of all strength
I entered St. Valery.

Recording by the Battlefield Band.

EIGHTEENTH DAY OF JUNE (THE)

On the eighteenth day of June, my boys, eighteen hundred and fifteen,
Both horse and foot they did advance; most glorious to be seen,
Both horse and foot they did advance and the bugle-horn did blow
Where the sons of France we made to dance on the plains of Waterloo.

When I was in my Prime

About the beginning of June,
'Twas there in the glade I espied a fair maid,
As she sang her lament to the moon.
