I've been singing at the Mudcat singaround every Monday for a year, and I have to face it that I can't sing high notes anymore. Still, I have no plans to stop singing. So I thought it would be good to make a list of songs that are easy to sing.

Please add your favorite songs for those bad-voice days.

Stewball was a Racehorse, and I wish he were mine
Since I Met You, Baby
When I lost My Baby, I almost Lost My Mind.

Think about singers whose range matches yours. The "sweet spot" of my voice is about the same as the voice of Bill Staines, so I can sing all of his songs very well.
I thought you did a very good job of "The Daring Young Man on the Flying Trapeze" today, leeneia - and that ain't an easy song.

Maybe shanties would be worth a try?

I chose 'The Man on the Flying Trapeze' because it's a funny song, and it doesn't matter much if one messes up a funny song. I had planned to sing "What'll I Do?", but no way was my voice in shape for it.

Let me put the original question another way.

When you get our your guitar and say to yourself "I'll start out with a nice easy one," what song do you pick? For me, it's 'Stewball.'

For me it is the half-spoken music hall songs, and songs i have written myself - even then i have written outside my comfortable range.

With shanties and traditional songs zoom is problematic as when I am singing at home I have to hold back the volume , and that limits the range a it too.
