Here's a brief story about the oyster schooner Robert Bruce. I have as yet been unable to find contact info for Michael Greiner.

Fascinating story, it backs up what has always been considered as good advice to anyone working at sea - Never piss off, or get on the "wrong" side of the Cook.

There is a Michael Greiner playing hurdy gurdy on the following track from 1991. I'm posting the info and link in hopes it will be of help locating him. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I7VP0uuqFKg

The song however makes my teeth ache.

a great singer here on lower columbia in washington usa has sung it but did not have the tune so he wrote his own tune. i would like to put it on an upcoming cd about shellfish. he probably has the lyrics but does not know how to contact the author either.

Thanks, Mary. Finding Greiner will be very difficult. Is it possible for you to post a few lines from the song? If we can find that anywhere online, it will certainly make finding the author easier (if it's possible).

There's another thread about this with some partial lyrics posted, which identifies their author (or at least performer) as a SCAdian known as Tamarin from the Kingdom of An Tir, aka most of the Pacific Northwest. Luckily, there are a couple of smaller SCA domains located on the southwest Washington coast, one of which appears to have specific interests in matters bardic).

Putting the two sets of information together gives a respectable number of leads; I've just sent out notes in three separate directions to see what I can pry loose. (As it happens, my paternal grandmother's family had/has deep roots in Pacific County, so I have a personal interest in finding the song, which I hadn't heard of till the threads here came up.)
