Subject: Nic Jones club recording Oxford '75 now accessible

As noted down the bottom of another thread "Making folk club recordings available" (that one getting a bit long/convoluted by now), I have made a version of my March 1975 audio recording of Nic Jones at Oxford Polytechnic Folk Club available on youtube here, with permission of Nic and family: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3TUFgE5H9Nk. It is a good recording (technical limitations not withstanding) and shows Nic as a true master of his craft, performing in his period of developing his guitar arrangements between those of "Nic Jones" (1971 album) and "The Noah's Ark Trap" (1977), also including a number of tunes and songs not, or rarely, available elsewhere. Comments can be included on the youtube page if you wish, where they will be read by the most persons, probably, and/or here of course... Enjoy!

Tony Rees, Australia (UK to 1986)

yes, it was so good to hear this, i found it interesting to hear his repertoire too, and hear him do a few unaccompasnied songs, presumably at this time he was not using his fiddle, good guitar instrumentals. the clyde water accompaniment was intersting, was it different from the one available on lp? i thought so , but might be wrong.
i will listen again, a real pleasure, thanks

Apparently the version on "Penguin Eggs" is a different arrangement (I do not have that one to hand as I write), but a fine recording of this arrangement appears (undated?) on "Game Set Match", see the (probably unauthorised) copy on youtube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cM5eHS527V8.

RE Clyde Water: there are versions similar to this one from audience tapes on both "Unearthed" and "Game Set Match" (different performances). The version on Penguin Eggs, under its alternate title "The Drowned Lovers", is the same song but to a more bouncy, melodeon/accordion led backing, and less appealing (to my taste)... you can get a snippet of that via https://music.apple.com/ and an appropriate search.

Cheers - Tony
